Nothing that goes in the ears because they won't fit and fall out all the time. I have no idea what the brand is by my daughter liked this hybrid ones that loop over the top of her ears so no headband but cover the ear.
I want to get a good pair of headphones for my son. that have some kind of outside noise cancelling.
well be on the road to see the niagra falls with a bunch of my nieces and nephews. my son likes to be left alone in the car ride to watch his videos n or movies. So i want to but good headphones to cancel MY LOUD family so he doesnt have to keep increasing the volume- That i tend to so with my lil gummy headphones
Ok thank for the ideas!
On his itounch you can parent lock it and set a limit on how loud the volume can go. So if it noise canceling them he doesnt need it that high n he cant change the volume to blast it

My son not allowed to watch videos/movies/T.V on the regular N this is probablybe used on the last 1or 2 hours of car ride when people are just cranky and over the whole road trip ideas .....lol

Not trying to be rude, but why don't you ditch the videos and movies and play games with your son, nieces and nephews. It could be such a wonderful non electronic experience. If it was me, I would leave all that stuff home. How about conversations. So much to talk about. My grand kids are not allowed to be plugged in with me. We are turning Into a society
Non verbal idiots (sorry). Dont get me wrong there is a time and a place for electronics.
Oh, I got some for my son when he was a few months old, and we still use them at two years old. Here they are: http://www.earplugstore.com/.

Headband Model Ear Muffs

I could never find a pair of head phones that fit my little ones well but I did find "shooters muffs" for kids. They block out the sound of gunfire so I think they would work even if your family is as loud as mine!!! I then take a pair of earbuds and tuck them inside. It blocks out the sound and they can still listen to their movie/music. I set the volume and they know if they mess with it they loose the player!!!
I was too worried about them having the volume up too high at that age, so no headphones. My kids are just starting to use them now at age 9 and 7. The 7 year old needs to be reminded to turn them down.
Go to target. Any regular head phone will work my daughter uses the skull candy ones (clearance) but I'd get those anyway they run 30 but do have noise cancelling and they won't break apart easily like cheaper ones would.
Get a pair that is outside the ear or covers the ear. Do not get the little ear buds that sit inside the ear.
These would be something I would buy.

My kids use Auvio Kids headphones that I got at Radio Shack. They were $15-20 a pair. They go over the ear and are very comfortable but the volume is limited so that they can't blast what they're listening to too high. I used them to listen to music and audiobooks while riding my bike indoors this winter. Between the noise of the bike trainer and my kids playing, watching TV and/or playing video games in the same room there was a lot of noise around me but these were sufficient for blocking out that noise and allowing me to hear what I was listening to.
That said, I agree somewhat with Patty K. - roadtrips can be great fun and a wonderful opportunity to spend time together and build fun memories so do balance out plugged in time with unplugged time. I know that being in the car for hours with a bunch of kids can be a nightmare (we have 4) so we do bring along a movie to watch for trips that are 4-5+ hours but we also have time when they have to just be alone with their thoughts or talk to each other.
If you want a super pair I'd invest in beats by dr dre. My son has some over the ear ones and they work fantastic. They are pricey though. For a cheaper but still good Sony makes good ones.
