Baking Soda' Stuffed Animals and Washing Machine

I usually just throw my kids stuffed animals in the washing machine, save for big ones or ones with electronics. I usually do a big clean of their room when they are not here, so I can throw stuff out -why do kids collect candy wrappers and insist in keeping them for memories!?!?! In any case, they were home today when I went to wash stuffed animals and clean out their room. I got two loads of animals in the machine, but then I had a bunch they refused to let go in the machine. I put some baking soda on them to clean them, but one of the dogs has hair that doesn't seem to want me to bang the soda out.

Can I put these silly baking soda covered animals in the wash?

Also, will baking soda work in shoes to pull the smell? If yes, how do I remove it?

What can I do next?

I do not know how you wash stuffed animals and have them come out looking the same. How does their fur not get matted?

The only thing I can speak to is the baking soda in shoes. Depending on what the insole is made of, the insole could be the culprit and there is no getting the smell out. My daughter's flats had an insole that I finally ripped out and put in a replacement insole. Problem solved.

Yes you can put the baking soda covered stuffed animals in the wash. In fact, many laundry detergents include baking soda. Just be sure to let them dry completely.

And yes, baking soda in the shoes will help remove odors (but it is not a miracle worker). Just shake out the extra, the rest will naturally wear off.

They should b just fine in the wash with baking soda, it will deodorize them. It should work in the shoes too, but I notice that any shoes my daughter wears without socks stink the most.

I started buying her Crocs (they have very nice flats and some the look like sneakers) so I can toss them into the wash or wash them by hand.

i thought they had 'refused' to allow you to wash them?
but if they're 'permitting' you to do so, why NOT wash them?
not sure i understand.
yes, washing will ruin some stuffed animals. most come through okay, if you use cool water and a gentle setting. putting them in one of those mesh bags often helps.
i've found baking soda to have a little effect on stinky shoes, but not enough to be worth the trouble of trying to bang it all out again. nothing really worked on my older boy's shoes. gods above and below, what putrid feet that boy has! foot spray and inserts are all we could do, and replacement when it became overwhelming. for sneakers we just wash them sparingly. it does wear them out faster, but it's a toss-up when the smell makes them of only marginal use anyway.

Putting baking soda in your washer won't hurt the machine.
Baking soda in shoes does help, and there's mno need to remove it. I just sprinkle it in mine and leave it there even when I put the shoes back on.
But if you want to remove it, just turn the shoe upside down and dump it out.

I never washed stuffed animals in the washing machine and our daughter had a ton of them.

I'm behind on this post so forgive me please.
