get an enzyme cleaner and put in washer. Then stuff the shoes with a towel to keep shape and let air dry.
Help!! My daughter just started school w/brand new leather sneakers, K-Swiss tennis sneakers. She had an accident today & poor thing was taken care if with a new change if clothing but didn't change her socks or sneakers. She's a first grader & like my older daughter hold it in to the last possible moment. K-Swiss website says not to put them in the washer but other mom sites say they throw leather sneakers in the washer. Not sure what to do.
If anyone has tips on teaching my daughters to go when they feel it right away that would be great too!!
Thanks for your responses! I did throw them in the washer and it worked out great! I washed them and put them outside in the sun to dry. Clean, and bright! Thanks again. I just wasn't sure if the leather would be ruined or not, but like you said at this point it was all I can do. :-)
get an enzyme cleaner and put in washer. Then stuff the shoes with a towel to keep shape and let air dry.
You can also try hand washing them. That's what I did when DD's sneakers got soaked and I also sprayed them with Nature's Miracle and let them dry.
Here's my thought, throw them in the wash. They are ruined now. If they are ruined by the wash, you are really no worse off.
Good luck to you and yours,
F. B.
I put them in the washer, just not the dryer
I would throw them in the washer. You don't have much to lose at this point because they NEED to be thoroughly washed. I put tennis shoes in the wash all the time without a problem, just let them air dry. I have even put older Uggs in the washing machine even though I know you are not supposed to and they come out great. Good Luck!
Washer, not dryer.
Tips? She was probably embarrassed...as long as she doesn't have a physical or psychological issue then the problem is likely already solved. Just make sure she knows where the bathroom is at school and what the procedure is to have permission to go.
I, too, would try the washer, but not the dryer. Do you have any Nature's Miracle at your house? If not, do you have neighbors with pets? Nature's Miracle is a treatment for smells and stains made by pets, but it also can work on people things like shoes and mattresses. Good stuff.
I agree about putting them in the washer anyway. Just use the very gentle cycle - they don't need to agitate much, just soak with a little swishing around of the water now and then. You can take them out before the spin cycle. Sometimes sneakers wash better when you put them in a lingerie bag - the sneakers can float which means they don't get as clean, but when you put them in the bag, the fins of the agitator catch the bag and drag the sneakers down below the surface of the water. Otherwise, put them in a full sink with something on top of them, like a pot filled with water.
Half the stuff that says "dry clean only" can even be washed so I don't put a lot of faith in the labels or manufacturers' instructions.
You can try adding baking soda to the water too, and definitely stuff with towels or old newspaper to absorb the water while they are drying.
I'm sure you've taken care of this by now... but just wanted to say Natures miracle, it is a miracle worker. You can find it at petsmart. I use it on our matress' if there's an accident and it's great.
We wash our K-Swiss in the washer and let them air dry. I wash them on normal in whites but only warm water. I also put some bleach in the load too, it helps sanitize the toe jam.
Yep, go for it. Just let them air dry.
Throw them out. You could try washing but as soon as her feet start to sweat, they will smell. Go to Payless to get new sneakers until she settles in at school.
Put them in the washer and wash on cold.
Then let them sit out upside down over an air vent till they are dry - it might take a few days.
That's one good thing about old fashioned canvas sneakers - they are super easy to wash up!
