I plan lots of parties for friends and relatives and of the baby showers that I have hosted I have found that especially if the average age of the guest is over 30, games are not as much enjoyed as activities are. One activity that is always enjoyed by the guests and appreciated by the mommy-to-be is decorating onesies or bibs. I buy an assortment of white onesies (in different sizes) or bibs and fabric markers and let the guests decorate them for the new baby. The mother always tells me how much she appreciates having these one-of-a-kind onesies and how it also gives her great keepsakes.

Well, I would think almost any baby shower game would be appropriate for this occasion. The only thing missing is the big belly, so anything dealing with the new mommy's belly wouldn't work. But, anything else is totally appropriate in my opinion. Here are a couple that I think are really cute and would be silly and fun!

BABY FOOD GUESS!!!
Required: 10-15 jars of baby food, permanent marker, paper and pencil
Players: Small to large groups

Buy 10 – 15 different flavors of baby food and remember, the more flavors the less chance you’ll have a tie game. Make a master list with numbers and record the flavors you have and then with a permanent marker write on the lid of each jar the corresponding number. Remove all the labels to the baby food jars. Hand out a pencil and paper to each player and have the players write down the numbers of jars they’ll have to see. Pass the baby food jars and they are to record what they think is in the jar but quietly without clueing their neighbor (no sampling allowed). If working with a large group, start several jars in differently locations with the playing group and have them all pass the jars in the same direction. The player that guesses the most correct jars of baby food is the winner.

BABY SHOWER WORD SCRAMBLE!!!
Print off enough copies to give each guest one. Get them to unscramble as many words as they can, writing the correct answer in the adjacent space, in a set amount of time say five or ten minutes. The guest who gets the most answers correct is the winner.

One game I like is the candy bar in the diaper. All you have to do is get a few diapers and a few different types of candy bars. Number the diapers, and place a melted candy bar in the diaper. You can guess what it looks like. Then the guest have to guess what type of candy bar are in the diapers. You may even have one brave guest who will take a taste of what is in the diaper. Which ever guest gets the most correct is the winner.

Congratulations to your aunt, and good luck with the shower.

what about the old standard: melt chocolate candy in the diapers and try to ID by smelling.tasting out of the diaper? (Baby Ruth, Hershey with Almonds, Snickers, etc.

I guess I don't understand - I don't know that I have ever played a baby shower game that was "specifically" for expecting parents and somehow couldn't be used for parents who grew their family through adoption . . .

Hi C.,
Since your aunt won't have the belly to contend with, you could have more active games, and tie/strap pillows (fake bellies) on everyone and have a great laugh: obstacle courses (players must race/crawl/jump/diaper/puree foods/etc) all while carrying toy babies.

Congrats on your soon-to-arrive new cousin!

I realize you mean you don't want the typical toilet paper game where you try and guess the size of the mom's belly =) The diaper one another poster suggested is one. Another game would be to get diaper pins and give every guest three to pin to their shirt as they come in. Nobody is allowed to say the word baby. If you hear someone say "baby" you take one of their diaper pins. At the end of the shower, the person with the most diaper pins wins. (this is a good ice-breaker to get guests to mingle) Another game is to do some sort of baby word scramble. Words like "diaper", "bassinet", "bottle" all jumbled up and then give a handout to each table to work on. The table that gets all the words correct first wins a prize. Another game would be to have a pack and play and time who can set it up and take it down the fastest. Another game would be to get baby facts about the mother and father to be and have people take guesses, such as how much did the mother weight at birth, or what was dad's favorite thing to eat as a baby. Those with the most correct answers win. (grandparents will probably have the upper hand here and may want to sit this game out). There are lots of fun games out there, just google baby shower games and have fun!

I agree with Kristine- the belly pillow game would not go over well. Guess what's in the diaper, or any other "regular" shower games would be fine.

All the games listed below look good... except for the one that said to tie on a pillow. DO NOT DO THAT. It would not be funny.

I went to a baby shower this weekend and we played three games. The first is to fill a baby bottle up with M & M's and guess how many are in the bottle, next we played a game where you name movie star babies or guess famous people babies names and the third game is when each person gets a strand of beads or necklace and if you hear someone say the word baby you get to take their beads and the one with the most beads (necklace) at the end of the shower wins.

I am an adoptive mom, and at my baby shower we did games that were the same as any other shower. We did guess what the baby food was. We did another that I thought was fun. We each had a paper with a list of baby products. We had to write down the price of the items. Then the host told us the average of the prices. It was funny to hear the answers of my friends that were no where close to having a baby. I would not focus on the adoption. Make it like any other shower.

I have one- get a tray and put baby items on it (diaper, diaper pin, pacifier, baby bottle, etc). Walk around with it and let everyone look at it. Later in the shower bring out some paper and have them list the items on the tray. The one that lists the most wins! And here is another- get mini candy bars and melt them in dipaers. Have everyone figure out what candy is in the "poo-poo" diapers. And one more- give everyone a necklace of some sort and have them wear it. Pick a no-say work like "baby". If someone catches someone saying the no-say word, then they take their necklace. The one with the most necklaces wins!
