For my second baby, my friends had an afternoon tea for me, as well as, some of my other friends who were pregnant. It was a bit more low key then a full shower, but very relaxing and enjoyable. You could invite family and only close friends.
i am planning on getting pregnant within a few months w/ my second baby! i am so excited thats all i can talk and think about!!! my sister mentioned having a shower for me. my mom thinks its completly tacky, im not sure what to do, my son is 4 and by the time i actually have the baby he will be 5, and i got rid of everything!!!!! i have a 9 year old stepson whom my husband has custody of so with 2 boys i thought we were done. but now im thrilled about being pregnant again and having another baby! any advice on weather or not to have a shower??

i say if you want it, go for it. people who dont want to come wont come. if your mom is adament and you want to compromise, have a small shower for close family, thats what we did, it was nice. congrats and good luck :)
I had a shower for all three of my boys. The first two are almost three years apart, my third came six years later. They were all given by different people and the guests varied. Technically, you are not giving your own shower, so if someone wants to share this joy with you, why not?!

I have always been a very firm beleiver that when it comes to second, third or fourth baby showeres, it is not about the shower and gifts but about the new being inside of you. Each baby is special and unique and deserves to be honored individually. Whether it just be for a few new clothes or a diaper and lotion shower. In your case however, you don't have anything so It will be a little tricky, but I am sure that all the items that you really need will be given to you and the others you can probably get on your own. Let your sister throw you a shower, there is no way that your mom won't get into it once she sees how excited everyone is.
I can see why you asked this, traditionally it is only for the first one. But it has been a couple years and I see no reason why you shouldn't have another one. My mother and mother-in-law threw me a crazy huge baby shower for my first, but if I get prego again I will probably have one again, just not such a large one. Just have it be a little more intimate, invite some people who were not at your first and whoever wants to come will come.....CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!
If you want to have a shower for your second child that is your choice. You should not have to ignore your family for wanting to give you a shower. what if you have a girl? boys clothes won't work for her. think of it that way.
I think you let you sister do what she wants to make this nice for you, but I do think you're putting the cart before the horse. First get pregnant and focus on your health and your baby's health/development. Then let your sister add tot eh excitement when it's much closer to your delivery. Good luck!

Why is it tacky?? That's silly. Should you have 1 shower for 1 child no matter how many children you have?? The next child won't need anything? Especially with a 5 year age gap??
Every year baby products are improved and made better, new things are invented etc. No disrespect intended, but does your mom think you keep everything from the first birth for the next birth no matter how long the gap? I've had 2 children and 2 showers. All my friends have had multiple showers for their multiple children. The same friends and family came to all the showers and gave willingly and lovingly. If your sister is willing to give you a shower and share in your joy, and your friends will come, you shouldn't have an issue or be confused. Go for it!
honestly if you know what you are having then i don't see why you shouldn't have a baby shower because i am due july 1st with my 2nd child and i don't fin out what i am having until my daughter's 1st birthday and if i am having a boy i have to go out and buy stuff for him myself because i don't want to have another baby shower because no one would really come to it just like no one really came to my baby shower for my daughter but like i said if you really want to have a baby shower then do it
I agree with the other responses. If you want one, you should have one. My mother threw me a big shower when I was pregnant with my twins. For my second pregnancy, my mother gave me a brunch with ten of my and my husband's immediate family members. It was an intimate celebration of my second child. It was really special and my little girl received a lot of nice things that are "her own."
Dear S.,
I asked myself the same question when I got pregnant with baby number 2. my children are 8 years apart. My suggestion to you is this... 1. get pregnant! 2. celebrate! 3. register so if anyone wants to get you anything they know what you need 4. Buy yourself whatever you don't get from this "shower". The shower would typically happen about 6-8 weeks before your due date so that leaves you plenty of time to buy the remaining items that you will need to take care of your baby in the event that there is no shower. FYI... Keep in mind that people tend to give clothes more often than not as welcome gifts so try not to rely on any welcome baby gifts for major items. Good Luck!
If you live in a different town with all new friends then it's ok to have a second shower. Otherwise I agree with your Mom. It's tacky.
I had a baby shower for my 2nd (even though they were only 2 years apart) but it was a "diaper and wipes" party. But since your children will be 5 years apart, I think a baby shower is a pretty good idea.
Congrats!
Do it!! If they don't want to come..they don't have to!
