Yes - buy some probiotics! You can get the kind behind the pharmacy shelf in a fridge or powder to mix with liquids on the shelf. They'll help immensely!!
my 8 month has diarrhea as he is on antibiotics for strep throat. I have been asked to follow the BRAT diet for him - banana, rice cereal, apples, toast. I am breastfeeding him , so wondering what I should be eating as well. Is there any food i should completely avoid(like milk etc) or any food that I can eat that helps him. Please help moms.He now has a bad diaper rash because of this, I am using butt paste which has worked for him before but this is very bad rash.Anything else I could try? Thanks in advance.

aw poor baby. i remember all too well when my son had a bad diaper rash from the antibiotics as well. definitely get the probiotics. there's not enough in yogurt so you have to buy the powder at the pharmacy. i was skeptical but couldn't believe it when his diarrhea stopped completely. it was seriously amazing. i wish i had known about it sooner! i got culturelle for kids from target which is a powder you can mix in with his food/milk/etc. as for his current daiper rash, definitely do not use desitin as that BURNS when you have a rash. we use triple paste ointment (found at any pharmacy) which is a little more expensive but has worked well for us. If the rash gets super bad, make sure it's not yeast or something that's exacerbating the situation. and try to air dry his little butt as much as possible. maybe let him hang around naked on the bottom for a bit if you dont mind the mess (you can put him in baby underwear which airs out better than diapers and keeps the urine from shooting out). and finally, dont use wipes. use viva papertowels from target (it has to viva which is cloth like, according to my dr) and wet it to wipe him. or even better, rinse him off in the shower instead of wiping him at all. i hope he feels better soon. i know how hard it is to see him in pain! :(
Bag Balm for the diaper rash! I was skeptical when my FIL suggested it for my sons diaper rash, but its all I use now when he has a bad one. It seriously works wonders. My sons usually clears up by the next day.
HTH & GL!
Make sure that the rash is not yeast, the doctor will give you a prescription if it is, and the antibiotics could cause that too! Once you know if it is yeast or not, the very best thing for run of the mill diaper rash is your hair dryer! I promise, we used this with ours and it was GREAT! Clean him well with plain water, maybe soap if you need it, and then, use the hair dryer on low or no heat, and dry him for as long as he will let you! You will see his bottom clear up as you dry him out, you can use it for 5 minutues or more...it really does work! Then, coat his bottom with the butt paste, or Desitin (kind of like frosting!) and if you have some A&D, rub a small coating of that in first, then diaper him, and do the whole thing again as soon as he has a bowel movement. It will clear up and he will be comfy. Going with out a diaper is good too, after a good hair drying!
We got this tip from a pharmacist about 18 years ago. I sent my husband to the drug store to get something for our daughter's horrible rash. I was so surprised and thought that this would never work when my husband said that he was going to blow dry our daughter's bottom, but I let him do it, and we used this method for each of our children from then on. Promise, it works.

You and he should both be eating yogurt to get some good bacteria in there. If possible, some sauerkraut would be great, too. Sounds weird, I know, but it really does help with belly and bottom issues.
Besides that, if you can possibly get your hands on Devil's Club Salve, do so! Devil's club is a plant that they use to make a salve. It is miraculous how it's helped M. and my family!
I agree - probiotics.... can mix the powder kind in food or milk. I get mine at the local healthfood store - the sales people can help you! I also swear by Aquaphor for diaper cream. Finally - when possible - let the little guy be nake for periods of time - I know it can be messy, but the air on the rash is great. Hope he feels better soon : )
