Is their anything to help get rid of baby acne? My 5 week old has had it for about a week now and it is all over his head and a little on his face. My other two kids had it but I don't remember it being this bad.

What can I do next?

Dear J.:

We used SulfaDerm: www.sulfaderm.com

It worked great and fast.

Good luck

Just ride it out. There's nothing you can do. My youngest had terrible acne as a newborn. She had the skin of a 15 year old boy, poor little thing! It took a few weeks to go away, but it finally did. Don't use any soap or lotion or anything on it - just let baby's skin breathe.

For baby acne and cradle cap our pediatrician recommended these over the counter products: Cetaphil Gentle Skin cleanser and Cetaphil Moisturizer lotion (use one to two times a day); for the cradle cap Selsun Blue original (was strong; used it two times and the cradle cap was gone with good brushing and baby oil.)

Our daughter's acne went away within a week and never returned. I hope these products will be of help to your little one.

It could be partially cradle cap... My DD had a full-body cradle cap rash... it started out on just her head and face, and I thought it was baby acne too... (on the scalp it's flaky, but when it travels down the body it does look like baby acne...) We wound up having to use a prescription cream on her to get it to go away. Her pediatrician recommended putting her on a bath regime of 2 days plain water to 1 day with soap. (baby skin is sooo sensitive, and they don't really need the soap that much...)

What ever you do, DON'T PICK AT THEM! THEY WILL SCAR!
My sister couldn't help herself, and picked at her son's baby acne.
He is 17 y/o now, with scars from where she picked.
It will go away on it's own. The skin is developing pores...don't make it worse by 'helping'.

Not a single thing. Well don't put a lot of lotion in his face. My son HAD IT BAD. It seriously looks like he's a baby faced teenager. I wouldn't wash him for 3-5 days until he really needed and then put a very thin layer of lotion. If I didn't lotion his face at all he would get super dry and still get acne. So just ride it out.

Are you sure it's acne? My son had cradle cap really bad too and then it was compounded by what I thought was baby acne but was really a reaction to milk. He was red and pimpley for weeks before I figured it out and it was all over his entire body. Does your son have any other symptoms like really horrible gas or lots of mucus? If not then it probably is just acne. I like aquaphor, it's a bit greasy, but it moisturizes really well!
