J.T.
Hi I'm J.. We have been stationed here in Bamberg for almost 2 years. We have 4 sons ages 18, 16, 14 and my baby is turning 3 tomorrow. When are you PCSing?, Do you have pets?, Do you wish to live on or off post?, Anything that you can tell me about yourself will help me answer any of your questions. Ultimately I love the city of Bamberg. If you can get into the habit of getting out of the house and off the base you can experience so much of the culture. I lived on post for a year and now we reside off post and I must say that I love living off post much better. There is an advantage to living on post. You are close to everything especially if you do not have a car you can walk everywhere. There is also an advantage to living off post. You have a little more privacy and you get to take advantage of the off post shopping, resources and culture more. The post is small and there is a shuttle bus that operates on the weekdays to take you around. The housing is stairwell with shared laundry in the basement (unless you are lucky to get a top floor apt in some units they have W/D) for E-6 enlisted and under and Lower ranked officers, and Townhouse type living for anything above that. Have your received your orders yet? If so you can fax them to housing so that they can put you on the list for housing that way you don't have long to wait when you get here. The Bamberg website has alot of important phone numbers that you will need. I hope this helps. Anything else just ask away. Best Wishes.
