Nope, know nothing about today being a holiday. Just a plain regular day for me and everyone around me.
My kids are off school today so I am too at home with them for the Holiday. Are your kids off school or is today becoming a less celebrated holiday?
Ok sorry I looked wrong. Today is a school improvement day.
Nope, know nothing about today being a holiday. Just a plain regular day for me and everyone around me.
What holiday is today? I thought I got all holidays off. I'm going to have to have a sit-down with the boss!
Yes, our school is always closed for National Poundcake Day.
Seriously--what holiday? I need to plan my "theme" dinner! Lol
ETA: Whew! So relieved. I never did get the theme dinner nailed down!
Today is:
Benjamin Harrison Day
Courageous Follower Day
International Scrapbooking Industry Day
March Forth (Do Something Day)
National Grammar Day
National Pound Cake Day
Toy Soldier Day
But I imagine if your kids are out of school for any sort of holiday and not a teachers professional day or make up snow day then it's because of this one.
Old Inauguration Day
And tomorrow is:
National Cheese Doodle Day
and the best day ever:
National Potty Dance Day
My kid is in school. What holiday is it?
Must be, "ask a stupid question and leave everyone hanging day".
What holiday is today??
Wait, there is a holiday today? Which one?!!!
Spring Break is typically the second week of March around here. So, no holidays in March until then.
It must be a less celebrated holiday because I don't even know what holiday you are referring to! Lol
Our kids had a half day on Friday so that teachers could prepare report cards. But today they are in school, hubby is at work, the banks are open and the mail is running. I guess today is a less celebrated holiday, because I had no clue that there was an official holiday for today. What celebration am I missing?
what holiday?
khairete
puzzled S.
uuummm nope...kids are in school and I'm working...or at least I should be...
what holiday? I know it's my mom's birthday today but as much I would love it to be a national holiday - it's not!!
I found a lot of stuff on wikipedia that happened this day in history!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March_4
or are we talking about Kenyan's being allowed to vote?
I found March 4 National Poundcake Day, but otherwise, it must be an in-school service day.
Wait, wasn't Dr. Suess' bday Saturday?
JK! Seriously tho ~ what holiday is today? Both my boys had school and they are in 2 different school districts.
Um, my calendar does not show a holiday. Wanna help us out?
School was open.
Casimir Pulaski Day. 1st Monday in March.
I don't think today is becoming a less celebrated holiday, because in MOST places... today is NOT a holiday. Instead it's predominantly an Illinois holiday.... what with having the largest Polish population in the US. I only know about it because I used to live in Chicago.
This..... from wikipedia
Casimir Pulaski Day is a holiday reserved in Illinois on the first Monday of every March in memory of Casimir Pulaski (March 6, 1745[1] – October 11, 1779), a Revolutionary War cavalry officer born in Poland as Kazimierz Pułaski. He is known for his contributions to the U.S. military in the American Revolution by training its soldiers and cavalry.
The day is celebrated mainly in areas that have large Polish populations, such as Chicago. The focus of official commemorations of Casimir Pulaski Day in Chicago is at the Polish Museum of America where various city and state officials congregate to pay tribute to Chicago's Polish Community.
This is a separate holiday from the federal observance, General Pulaski Memorial Day, which commemorates Pulaski's death from wounds suffered at the Siege of Savannah on October 9, 1779.
Illinois enacted a law on September 13, 1977, to celebrate the birthday of Casimir Pulaski and held the first official Pulaski Day celebrations in 1978. The bill was introduced by State Senator Norbert A. Kosinski, a Democrat from Chicago, and signed by Thomas C. Hynes, President of the Senate on June 26, 1977. Chicago Public Schools, Cook County government offices, the Chicago Public Library, Springfield Public Schools, and state-wide public and private schools are closed on this holiday.
Wisconsin public schools are also to observe Casimir Pulaski Day.
Nope.
Our district has this Friday 8th and Monday 11th off. Yay!!
We can use a break from the constant barrage of homework/projects/activities. I love having my kids home to romp and play..and invite their friends here to do the same.
Guess today would be fitting to wish everyone the "Happy Holidays" greeting that is so widely debated!!
My children's school is in session and we are in IL today. We are one of the FEW districts in IL that does have school today. But they also have school on Veteran's Day. Their school does, however, have 1 half day a month (Friday) off - I hope the teachers get this off too, otherwise they would be missing out on two holidays per year!
Yes, it's Casimir Pulaski Day in Illinois.
