Annoying Ad Banners on Mamapedia

I finally broke down and got an iPad, but the Mamapedia site has all these banner ads that cover up the questions and content that I want to read. I can't seem to find a way to close them or move them. There was an "opt-out" on the amedbatv banner, but everytime I try to opt out it says there's an error and not able to process that request. Is there an App I should be using to get to Mamapedia or some other way to get in and not have the banner ads mess up the content? Or is Mamapedia just not properly mobile formatted?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks, everyone. I will try the refresh option. I don't mind that they have ads as a revenue stream on the site. What I mind is the ads messing with the functionality in using the site, especially the long ads. That's just really lousy marketing...good marketing is a point of inspiration that intrigues enough to take action. As with all "free" sites, members have a financial value to the site. Besides providing free content for MP, the bottom line is that the more members --particularly the more active engaged members that they have -- the more Mamapedia can charge for ads and also the more advertisers they attract. I guarantee that MP tracks not only how many members they have, but how often we log in, how much time we spend on the site on average and a lot of other info to use that data in attracting advertisers. I agree with what was stated in the responses; I don't plan to purchase from the advertisers who are disrupting my experience on the site. I'll try the refresh to be able to use it on iPad. Thanks!

I use my iPhone primarily to access MP and I got the long banners for a long time. Almost to the point of abandoning this website altogether. Then they went away! But alas, they're back!! Mamapedia, PLEASE get rid of the banners!! PLEASE!!!

BTW, I did use refresh but they came back at least 3 or 4 times before they would go away and I could read the question.

Dear. God. HATE those.

And sketchers, Land of Nod, stupid wine club, and whatever new colorful one is up there... take note: I am officially avoiding buying anything from your company for at LEAST a year (12 mo after your ad stops dropping down... LoN, you've already got 15 months on your sentence and counting!)

I used to buy from Land of Nod and Sketchers on a regular basis.

I'm pretty sure MP has it formatted that way on purpose, because you have to zoom in to click on the teeny tiny link 'behind' the ad, so there are a lot of accidental ad clicks... and every click is revenue for them.

Zoooooooooom in to click on recent questoins link

refresh to clck on any Q stuck behind a long ad

'send' PMs and Ask Your Own Q without a subject and it will prompt you for a subject on a line away from the ad so you can actually write in the box.

Zoom in and click. You can still read MP behind the ad.

There's a version of Firefox for iPad now.
It's suppose to work with several popular add ons, and if Adblock Plus, No Script and Flashblock work, that should help with the ads issues you are having.

Do you have any virus protection with an ad-block feature? We have that on our computer, and I've never seen an ad here.

I also have an iPad and I actually was able to contact someone from mamapedia. They are aware of the problem, and no, iPad does not have a way to block them,

I think they are going to try to get an app, but changing things on a site like this takes time and money.. Since we are all using it free, may need to be patient.

I have found some times going to the "flower page" I can then get to the question bar.

Also if you will increase the size of the bar at the top, depending on the banner shape you can get to the word questions....

momwithcamera's right. On ipads and iphones you have to zoom in, and then hit just the words that are the link (printed "through" the ad).

It's workable - that's the nicest thing I can say about it.

Me too. Just got my IPad can't stand the ad bankers. I just keep hitting the back and then forward button and it eventually goes away. Haven't tried the continual refresh button but I'm sure that produces the same outcome. Good luck! And I'm with you in hoping there's an app soon. only one that doesn't work for is the home banner, but I just select the link through it like others have mentioned.

****and auto correct banners not bankers

On my iPhone I get this box size ad that covers up the Q&A tab. But what I did find, is if you increase the pic size you can still click on the Q&A tab 'through' the ad. Does that make sense? Somehow it does not open up the ad.
