So i am using my iPad to view Mamapedia and i keep getting this pop up advertising that gets in the way of the questions and i can't read half of the questions.

Is anyone else struggling with this?

Do you know how I can get rid of it?

There should be this option to click on a small x in the upper corner so that you can opt out of it and move on but so far I can't find the little x or any other way of getting rid of it.

Does anyone have any idea's for me?

Thank you.

What can I do next?

Thank YOU for bringing this up, it's driving me batty! Especially because it blocks the top 3 or 4 posts and you can't click on them.

I just posted about this two days ago.

Jo W: Can you please tell me what app to download on my iPod? Instead of acting like we are stupid for not looking for an app, you could have given Us recommendation for a specific app. I have searched for an ad remover app in the app store but nothing comes up. In my post the other day, someone recommended iAdkiller but that does not come up when I search the apps in the store on my iPod.

What? I couldn't understand your question because I'm on my blackberry and the long vertical ad on the left gets in the way of half the questions! ;)

SUPER annoying. Mamapedia, please fix this!

Happens to me too and I HATE it!! One thing I have been able to do is reload the page until a different ad comes up that isn't so obtrusive. That has worked for me so I can at least read posts.

It happens on my iphone too! It is quite annoying! I've noticed that if I refresh the page, it makes the ad smaller and doesn't cover up the question. If you find a solution- let us know!

Yeah, Ive got the same problem on my iphone. My husband (computer engineer) says its definitely a website issue, because these are ads that are always on the site (not pop ups). Since they don't have a mobile site, we are kind of screwed. You could try to download a different browser (Opera is usually pretty good), and it might help, but I haven't done it myself. I just take the annoyance as karma's way of telling me to scale back my use of the site before I start making rude comments to certain people here that irk me. :) Do let us know if you figure it out though!

It is a coding error on the site. It isn't compadiable with apple products. I keep sending emails to the contact me along with links to my Flickr with images of the problem... So far no changes.

Oh my god, am I the only one who has heard of ad blocker? Block the ads then they don't pop up.

In other words they have an app for that.

This site does not have a mobile version so it is trying to run code for a full screen on a smaller screen. Something has to give, it tends to be functionality.

Block the ads, problem solved. :)

The website.... is programmed as such, that it has pop-up ads or Banner ads or expanding ads.
These, are typically strategically placed, in the website, so that, if your cursor glides over it, the ad will pop up in full bloom.
And, also, the companies that 'buy' ad space on the website, will often have a choice... of type of ad they want to pay for. ie: small thumbnail type ads that are stationary, or banner ads (these are the long ones at the top or along side vertically of a website, or the pop-up type, ads).

So, it is a matter of the website/the way it is programmed/developed/and how the website company itself... places ads on their website and what their Sponsors pay for.

And often, ads are placed in tricky places on a website, so as to increase mistaken cursor movements over the ad, so that it does... open and so that the person does... mistakenly click on it. That is another way, that companies, garner site traffic to their site.

Per the iPad, especially if you have free apps etc., it by default will display ads. But you have the option to close the ads and "skip" it. Then get to your planned destination.

Many ads... DO have the "x" (exit) option on their ads. BUT... they make it either not obvious or very small... so that the viewer cannot see it readily.
If an ad does not have a "x" (exit or close) symbol on it, then that means, it is just the ad face you are seeing... and it is a "fixed" ad, on that website. NOT a pop-up or expanding ad.
Pop-up ads, will have an "x" (exit or close) icon on it.

It is all about... HOW a website, is designed and programmed by the computer Programmers and Web Developers, and where the ad spaces are on a website... per placement... and which ads a Company Sponsor buys, on that website and where THEY want their ad, to be.
Every website, has "spaces" on their website, for ads. Specifically.
It is not only MamaPedia.
But yes, the MamaPedia pop-up ads, are pretty obnoxious. For a time recently, even on my desk top computer, I was getting the annoying expanding ads. But it does not occur anymore.

So for myself... I just do NOT... glide my cursor over ANY of the top portion of the website nor on the perimeter sides of the website. Because... THAT is where, the ads, are situated. Per this website.

Also: what browser are you using, on the internet?
Safari? Firefox? Microsoft Explorer?
Go to your "preferences" and check/uncheck your preferences for pop-ups.
