The same thing happened to my son. It only lasted for a little while. It is weird though! He'll be fine. :)
I have a 6 week old baby boy and when I was nursing him at the doctors I noticed fluid coming out of nipples. My doctor said that he was having a reaction to my estrogen. She said it was normal. I just need to know if anyone else had this happen to them and will it stop as soon as I am done breastfeeding? My husband made a joke about me stopping nursing because I will make him girlie. I didn't think it was funny, will that really happen?
Thank you so much to everyone who responded. I feel so much better now that I have so much support. I am still breastfeeding and I told my husband to not make anymore comments and he is being more supportive now. ( Well he's getting there :) )

this is totally normal. it didn't happen with my first, but did with my second (and my husband and brother in law made fun of him too!) it lasted for about three months - his little boobies actually got hard too and seemed uncomfortable - but after that it totally went away and is a totally normal 2 1/2 year old today!
Oh I remember that feeling, relax sweet heart I have 2 boys that I nursed for the 1st year and yes both of them had started to lactaid just like we do because of the hormones being so high after birth to jump start your production pass through the milk to him and he is human too so he is producing, it does stop so no he will not have breasts, Your hormones will level off here soon and so will his. It is ok, just do not give up on the breast feeding. My oldest son is 5 1/2 now and you would not believe the muscular structure on this child. no boobies here trust me!! Same with my 3 yr old.
Enjoy your new bundle of joy, and Congrats!!
Some babies (both boys and girls) will have a discharge from their nipples after birth - it is a reaction to your pregnancy hormones that must work their way out of the baby's body after birth, it's not related to the breastfeeding. Bottlefed babies can experience this after the birth too. He is SHEDDING the female hormones, not retaining them.
COMPLETELY NORMAL! My first son had it. It went away in a few weeks. He just had a lot of my estrogen in him. Supposedly, some girls will actually menstruate when they have a lot of their mother's estrogen in them. I wouldn't know, I have 2 boys :)
Don't worry about it and keep nursing him.
Totally normal. He still has lots of your hormones from pregnancy.
I don't remember it happening but I remember my sons pediatrician telling me it could and like you said its b/c of the estrogen. He made it sound more like it would be a result of being inside the womb more than breastfeeding - but maybe its both. Regardless, don't worry about it and don't listen to your husband. Men for as far as they've come are still cave men at times - LOL!
He is probably adjusting to your *wonky* hormone levels (it takes a while for them to level out after birth). :D I wouldn't necessarily call it a reaction like your doctor did, but I suppose that's one way to define it. And NO it will most definitely NOT make your son girly.
Doctors are VERY inexperienced when it comes to breastfeeding. Your son is and will be fine. What kind of "fluid" was coming out of your nipples besides breast milk? Was something off about your son's diapers that made the dr think he's having a "reaction"? I would love more info. Also, call your local La Leche League leader for more advice. They are full of info. llli.org.

No he won't be girlie. Continue to nurse away because it's the best thing you can do for him. Yes it'll stop.
Tell your hubby to make himself useful and play with the 10 and 3 yr old instead of teasing you.
Totally normal,
All my boys had milk coming out of there little boobies.
My oldest is now 13 and ALLL MALE. LOL
thin and handsome ladies man.

J.,
I didn't have it happen here, but it sounds plausible.
Don't pay any attention to your husband. You are extra-sensitive right now and he is not helping.
Good luck,
And CONGRATULATIONS! Keep up the good work - and the breastfeeding too.

Totally normal - happened with my son, too. It stopped pretty quickly (within a month), and I breastfed him until 18 months.
