Bumps on My Breast

These are most likely glands of Montgomery, or Montgomery's tubercle. They are the "bumps" that are scattered around the areola. It is believed that these sebaceous, or oil-producing glands, secrete a lubricating and protective substance, altering the skin's pH and discouraging bacterial growth. These glands also secrete a small amount of milk. This lubrications helps to keep the skin healthy and the areola elastic. They are absolutely nothing to worry about, and yes, squeezing them will typically not make them go away permanently. It is very common in women, especially if they have had children, as these tend to enlarge during pregnancy. Hope this helps!

They are called Montgomery glands and they keep your breasts clean and moisturized and healthy. That's why you don't really need to wash your breasts with soap, which can overly dry that area. Self-cleaning breasts!

Ya, they are just Montgomery glands and usually first come out with pregnancy. I just checked mine. They DO have white stuff that comes out of them. I never knew that!

They are perfectly normal. The little bit of white stuff that comes out is something like lanolin but I can't remember the exact name. It's there to protect your breasts. Quit worrying...you are normal!

It sounds like the little bumps are milk glands, and the white stuff is just a little bit of milk. I have them to and it kinda freaked me out till I realized what it was. For your own piece of mind, talk to your doctor about it.

These are normal. If you look, they are actually the pore where hair grows from. I know the temptation, but don't squeeze them. What you are squeezing out is actually a natural lubricant for the breast. When a baby nurses, the breast can get dry and chapped and these hair folicles help to protect the skin.
If you continue to squeeze them out, it is possible to cause damage and end up with an infection.

ok-I do too and they are like grease pockets...weird huh. so exactly like little pimples. I have had them ever since I had my first child and started breast feeding. my daughter is now 15 and I still have them

i do not know what they are called but i think what you are talking about are normal. I think they are use to help"clean" your breasts after breastfeeding. Just call your advice nurse and ask.No big deal!!!

I think it's normal. Was for me anyway. Probably not good to obsess about it though!

Do/did you breast feed? Maybe it is yeast.

I'm another one that has these. My doctor actually says they are just pores that fill up with the same stuff that other bodily pores fill up with, but the ones around the areola are also sumject to milk and colostrum so that is why they don't go away when you have become a mother. I can't not "pop" mine either. They get itchy if I don't. But they are totally normal for a mom. Wouldn't hurt to have a doctor check them out just to be safe, but if they are staying the same size and shape chances are they are nothing but booby bumps :)

I think that's totally normal. I have bumps around the aereolas on both of my breasts. Sometimes collostrum comes out of them, even though I'm well done nursing my kids. As far as I'm concerned, it's normal. :)

I have those, they are stray milk ducts. the little white oozy stuff is colostrum. If you put a baby to your breast again, you could re-lactate, and be a wet nurse for someone. this lasted for 8 years past my last pregnancy. it's nothing to worry about, & the comic will poke fun at anything he can get anybody to laugh at, even if it's an uncomfortable laugh. They don't bother your husband, and shouldn't. they are part of being a mom!!!

i have had those on my breat sine i was about 13 years old (i am not 26) I also used to "pop" them but it only casues painand they WILL NOT go away. I would ask your doctor though becasue my new doctor looked at them kinda concerned and asked when i started to see them, i told him years ago and seemed like he still wanted to keep an eye on them. I have an exsetionally large amount of cancer in my family and that may have simply been the reason but i ould still ask. Mine have not changed and so i don't worry about it. But like i said it has been a while for me. if they are new then get them checked, you can never be too care full when it comes to the healthy of the ladies

I am not sure this will help you at all, but I just wanted to write you and let you know that i also have the same thing, they are small little bumps. My fiance' has also never said anything to me about them. As I understand that we have little glands that help the nipple area to keep from getting dry and thats what those bumps are. I read it in a book. Not sure if this will help but at least you know that you are not alone

Those bumps are called Montgomery glands and are completely normal. :-) They are not pimples and they should not be squeezed. In fact, squeezing them could make them appear more/larger and could lead to an infection. OUCH!

I have always had these but they are barely visible unless I'm cold or aroused. When I was pregnant and nursing they were much more prominent (so much so, that my husband asked what they were). No need to be embarrassed or worried - they are there to naturally secrete oils and lubricate the area so you don't get chafed or chapped easily (especially when you are breast-feeding). They are just a normal part of breast anatomy. I hope this helps. :-)

These are normal! The "stuff" in them isn't puss, it's basically like moisturizer. I have these as well and when I was going to the lactation specialist when my son was born she told me that's what they were and that they're totally normal, common and nothing to worry about.

Its totally normal, this would be why he's never said anything about it.

They could be milk ducts thats what happened to me and still does once in awhile and my doctor said that sometimes milk comes out of them and I haven't breast fed for 16 years and I'm 49 yoa. So I hope that helps.

A number of small bumps that surround the nipple and look like "goose bumps" are sebaceous glands, and are called Montgomery's Glands or Areolar Glands. They secrete an oily substance that lubricates and conditions the surface of the nipple and the areola. This is helpful during breastfeeding, to prevent cracking of the nipple. These Montgomery's Glands become erect in the same manner that the nipple does when it is stimulated by touch, cold, fear, sexual stimulation, etc.

Are you talking about montgomery glands? Look that up and see if that might be what you mean. Some women's montgomery glands are more pronounced than others.

This isn't anything to be embarssed about, its totally normal and nothing to worry about. I developed these also and was told by the doc not to worry. They have been on my breasts for years with no change.

Its ABSOLUTLY NORMAL! I have them too and yes mine do the same thing. they are called montgomery glands and they do get cloged up like a blackhead would and its normal. they become more pronounced when pregnant but mine never went away after I had my daughters.

Those bumps are supposed to be there. They are to keep your nipples and areoles hydrated.

I know this sounds weird, but you are probably lactating a little. I had and know of other moms who also have this problem. I lactated for almost two years after my youngest was born and I met one mom who is still lactating after 6 years! I think it just has to do with hormones getting back to normal. Hope this helps! You should probably ask your doctor to check them out and make sure they're okay, but it sounds to me like little oil glands that lubricate your nipples. I had a couple show up when I was pregnant and they're totally normal. You're not supposed to squeeze them, though. (I squeezed mine a couple of times before I found out what they were, but they just kept coming back!) I've been breastfeeding for the last year and they're still present. I never had them before being pregnant, so I don't know if they're a permanent part of my anatomy, now, or if they'll eventually go away after I stop nursing.

Phew! Lot's of messages about this one. I am a Mom with a 6 year daughter who asked me about a pimple on her nipple last night and low and behold, I have one in the same place. I do have the glands too, but that one bump is larger than the others. I never squeezed it "ouch", but I know about once a month one of my breast is covered with what looks like dried milk ducts (and leaks from time to time). I tried to breast feed and it never happened for me (nipples too big? Whatever.). I mentioned it to the doctor OBGYN and she mentioned that some women can lactate like that for years after and it isn't unusual. I had also had some small skin tags removed near a nipple before having my daughter, so it wouldn't hinder breast feeding. If they hurt or look abnormal, definately, see a doctor. If it's just weird...AREN'T WE ALL? With my daughter having the same pimple in the same place, it just goes to prove who's kid she is. Hope this makes you feel better.

I'm pretty sure it's completely normal. I talked to a doctor about mine when I was in college and she seemed completely unconcerned. I understand being bothered by them, but unless they change (then they might need to be checked as breast cancer screening) you have at least one other "normal" person in the world with the same bumps. I have that too :) Mine don't hurt. I have never remembered to ask my OB about them, but you might if you are concerned. Mostly, I just ignore them. They seemed to show up somewhere around my first pregnancy so perhaps they are related (just like those little skin tags) to all the changed our bodies go through. Don't worry we all have these! They are like oil gland to moisten and keep your nipple from being too dry, especially during nursing! You are normal!

Don't be embarrassed! You are smart to get this checked out!
You NEED to get this checked out. I am not here to scare you but I want you to get to the Dr. and get checked out and take this seriously. It may be nothing but as a breast cancer advocate I want you to know about Inflammatory Breast Cancer (look it up on-line there are great resources about it) and it can begin with small bumps, soreness and discharge. MAKE YOUR DR CHECK! Discharge from your breast that is not clear should be checked out. Don't take this lightly and make sure you get it looked at. Young women are the ones that miss breast cancer signs because they think it can't affect them.

They are perfectly normal for them to be there and the doctors told me not to pop them. talk to your doctor and if it don't bother you then don't worry about it....But my doctors said not to worry and leave them alone. I got them while I was pregnent with my boys.

Talk to your doctor to see if it is the same thing that I might of had and make sure it is not something different and don't be embarrased to ask questions like this. It is okay to be questionable about something like this.

Hi, no need to be embarrassed at all. Those are milk ducts, and all women have them to a certain extent. Now, if HE had them, then there would be cause for embarrassment lol

I would suggest checking with your healthcare provider but it sounds like it just the little glands in your areola that produces the oil (sebum) that lubricates that area. From what I know it not uncommon for the glands to enlarge while nursing and therefore become more visible and not go back down.

The fluid can be white and be normal so just double check with your healthcare practitioner but sounds like you are normal to me.

Hey L., Everyone has these hunni. It's nothing to be embarrassed about at all. And you really aren't supposed to squeeze them either....lol. When we become moms things happen to our bodies that noone ever told us about this being one of them. Here is an article that explains it. I hope this helps......

I would go to a dermatologist or ask my gynocologist - have it checked out. You don't want to mess with any "lumps" anywhere.

i also have them and they are a bit annoying but i dont think there is a problem. the doctor's have never mentioned on.

As an 8 year breast cancer survivor, having been diagnosed at 29 I would suggest you ask a doctor about these asap. It tooke me weeks to get into the doctor before I was diagnosed b/c I didn't have "classic" signs.

the bumps are normal, part of motherhood.
STOP squeezing them immediately.

i just had a bilateral mastectomy; do you want an infection that could be part of starting a tumor growth site?

take lots of soapy, warm showers and spend your time reading to your kids instead of sqeezing.

hello L., I looked them up on the internet and they are called Montgomery Glands... Here is an explanation about them that I copied and pasted:

"It is quite possible that the bumps around your nipples that you are describing are mammary glands, which naturally appear on the areola (the circular pigmented area that surrounds the actual nipple) and look like small pimple-like bumps. The purpose of these glands is to help women deliver milk to babies when they are breastfeeding. In addition, the nipple is surrounded by hair follicles, and hair can be found around the outside of the areola. The amount of actual hair varies from woman to woman, usually begins to grow around puberty, and increases as you grow. This is a completely normal occurrence and is not a medical problem.

Hopefully this helps, cause I really didnt know the answer to that myself!! And like you, I have squeezed the ones on my nipples and gotten the same results so it is good to know!!!

I know someone that is going through a similar thing. Her doctor said it just seems to basically be a clogged milk duct. Her doctor gave her some antibiotics and some cream to help with the the itchiness. I know going to the doctor sucks, but from what I hear, what is happening to you is a common occurance and can be taken care of with the right medicine. Take care, and good luck.

I have always wondered if this could be a normal thing no one talked about or if it was strange. I feel better knowing I am not alonet. Hope you do too! I've had these since puberty (we all have!), but they became more pronounced during my pregnancy. I asked my midwife about them, and she said they are glands that produce a lubricant that keeps your breasts moisturized and clean. Completely normal and healthy. Don't squeeze the stuff out.

Do not fret! You are not alone! I too have these same bumps and asked my doctor about them several years ago. They are normal. Part of the milk ducts that all women have. On some women they are more promenant especially post breast feeding babies.

I, too have had what you're talking about. I just consider it one of my oddities. I was told by my ob/gyn that they're caused by excess oil in the area. I prefer to see them disappear by popping them, but they come back a short while later. I don't think there's anything to worry about. With constant moisturizing, they seem to be disappearing.
