Always Look Tired

I always seem to have dark puffy circles under my eyes from being tired. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've heard that hemmroid cream helps this, but never tried it. I also don't have a lot of money to blow on expensive products. Any home remedies (other than more sleep, lol)?

Edit: I don't think it's the blood pooling thing, because if I get to sleep a lot it seems to go away, lol.

What can I do next?

I've always had dark circles under my eyes. If I go without make-up, people almost always ask if I'm sick or sleepy. Neither is true. I have found no cream or home remedy that works even a little bit. And I've tried just about everything. I do bruise easily and have allergies, so that may explain some of it. Only real solution, is not worry about it or put on concealer. Try the tea bags the other ladies suggested for the puffiness. Beauty comes in all forms, and those "flaws" always seem bigger to the person that has them. Good luck... I wish that stuff would work for me!

Tea bags. The tannins in tea help just like hemeroid cream (yes, I tried it after watching "Miss Congeniality" and it really did work).

Hi A.,

Prep H will work on the puffy but you need a vitamin K cream for the dark adn that you have to be careful with because if you just get that alone you can risk vitamin K poisoning. Otherwise get some sleep! (I know easier said than done!)

I have them too. Agree with many people on here -- the 'tired' reason is a wivestale. It is caused by allergies according to my dr. I've noticed that my 3 1/2 yr old son has them too. His are worse right now and I think it's because the environmental allergy count is pretty high right now. I'm sure mine are worse too - but I get a good concealer and can hide them. Remember if they are blue-ish in color - you need the opposite -- so a peach or orange-y tinted color to counter-balance.

I've tried the hemmroid cream before and I don't think it helps. I would love to see what other mom's tell you because lately I have been looking the same. And like you, if it is extra sleep that will make them go away, then I am screwed! :-)

Dark under your eyes means your kidneys are in distress. You need to eat things that are easier on your kidneys, help flush out your kidneys, etc. Bitter herbs, dandelion greens and water are good helpers. Stay away from fatty foods as they make it worse, so do hard crunchy foods like chips and pretzels. oh, bubbly stuff too like soda or seltzer.

I have always had dark circles under my eyes, and have tried a few things that haven't worked. A couple of months ago as I was washing my face, I took my ring finger (the weakest finger) and rubbed gently under my eyes with the cleanser and then rinsed. I have noticed a marked difference! I figure that the dark circles is blood, well whenever I have a bruise, if I rub it, it helps to dissapate the blood so the bruise disappears and hurts less. So I thought if I could dissapate the blood from under my eyes it would help. I used to sell Mary Kay and I was told that the ring finger is the weakest finger and when you wash under you eye use that finger. So this is why I choose that finger to rub under my eyes. Anyway, it worked for me and wanted to share because it cost me nothing!!! Good Luck.

I would get a physical and see if your Thyroid levels are ok. It might be hormones too. Try to relax and get more sleep when and if you can.

It's caused by blood pooling underneath the skin, similar to a bruise. Nothing to do with lack of sleep, so don't beat yourself up over it. It just shows more with some people, like if you have thin skin. I'm really not sure what you can do to reduce it, the main thing is not to worry about it. I have it too and used to be paranoid, but once I found out it wasn't because of anything I was doing (like not sleeping enough) I let it go.

Dark circles can be what is called "allergy shiners" if you suffer from allergies or sinus issues. Prep H does help the puffiness, but wont do anything for the circles. Vitamin K will help with the dark circles if you have a consistent problem.

the hemmroid cream didnt work for me, so you can forget that one. I'v done cold tea bags but am always in a rush so I keep a spoon in the freezer and just hold that under each eye for about 30 seconds per side on a bad morning.

I have the same problem Concealer only seems to draw more attention to it, although I have never tried the avon one. I believe that part of the problem is hereditary. Although mine have gotten worse with age. Reducing allergens in your environment is helpful as some people believe it is mucous build up behind the thin undereye skin that is the problem.
I also take garlic pills or liquid, which does seem to help when I do it on a consisten basis. I also just learned that my ferritin levels are extremely depleted. I'm not sure if this causes the under eye problem, but . . . I can't wait to fined out.

Are you? Tired? That may be why!
Also lack of adequate hydration can cause circles, drinking pop will do it- it says your kidneys need some help- how much good water? Take your body weight in pounds, and divide it in half- make that number ozs- and that is the personalized amount of water you need daily to have your kidneys functions properly.
This helps even w/o sleep!
