I have a 3 year old daughter. She just got potty trained and is wonderful. However I need some advice on how to help her to get up at night to go potty. Any ideas? Thanks

What can I do next?

the trick i found to work, is making sure my daughter, who is 3 1/2 y/o, goes potty right before she goes to bed. if that doesn't work, you may have to pick a time and tkae her to the potty yourself in the middle of night until she gets "it."

Learning to use the potty is a huge event. Some children learn this very quick while others take more time. Just remember that each child is unique. Learning quickly or taking their time to learn to use the potty is not a sign of anything more it is a test of parents patience. Monitor their drinking a couple of hours before bedtime. Make sure they use the potty before they go to bed. Put a night light in the bathroom so they don't have to search in the dark for the bathroom. Above all, do not punish them for having accidents. This isn't a sign of laziness or rebellion. It takes time to learn.

When both of mine were still learning, I engineered nighttime potty this way: no drinking anything after dinner (about 6pm), must go potty right before bedtime (about 7pm), then leave the nearest bathroom light on at night and remind them "it's right there if you need it." By cutting off liquids early in the evening and going once more before bed, each of my kids only had 1-2 wet beds ever. (That might be just good luck, but maybe the strategy helped?) Also, just be patient, and hang in there!! :-)

We quit letting our daughter drink at least 1 hour before bedtime. We also made her sit on the potty everynight before she went to bed whether she said she had to go or not to give her the chance. Both of these helped pretty well for us. Good luck!!
