ADHD Vs Overactive Kid

I know this might seem a little quacky, but did you know that America is the only country that diagnoses ADHD? My brother who is 12 was diagnosed with ADHD, And after talking to several different doctors and a couple herbalists and nutritionist, we found out that alot of times its an imbalance that can be corrected with a change in diet and excersise. We did this for my brother and hes had an amazing turn around, He still gets his little bursts of hyperness,(but what kid doesnt) but hes a totally different boy now. Im not saying that this is the only way by any means, Im not trying to insult anyone whos child is ADHD, I just think that SOME doctors are too quick to diagnose and hand out meds like candy. Again, im not trying to insult anyone, I just see alot of postings on ADHD/ADD and thought I'd throw my two cents in there. Best of luck.

Try using games and toys that require control and engagement. If you need ideas on which ones let me know. Anything that had to do with stacking or building or even puzzles was what we used with my brother when he was diagnosed 4 years ago. The Discovery Toys really helped. Good Luck and God Bless!1

I have a daughter who is now 12 and she had been diagnosed at a very young age. She has been on medicine since the age of 5 she is a very clear cut case of adhd. Your daughter does get tired she just plain get over stimulated. Try to have at least an hour before bed of quiet time and warm baths help. Plus limit the sugar and you should see a difference in her. Also these children need structure and routine that way they know what it expect and they don't do change well sometimes if you would like you can e-mail me and I will give you my number to talk if you like I have been a special ed aide for years I know homeschool my daughter. ____@____.com

Before going straight to the meds, try bringing down your daughter's sugar intake. Cut down on juices and anything sweet. She might not be too happy about it, but it may help. Does her "over-activity" slow down her educational process, or is it that she gets bored easily and needs lots of different things to keep her attention? Does she learn fast and moves on to the next thing, or is she a slower learner? This should help you determine whether there is a real problem or not. "Over-active" children may be geniuses.
The loudness can easily be helped. If she is misbehaving by being loud then she may be trying to get attention, but if she is just not aware then share with her why she needs to tone it down.

Well she sounds exactly like my son,and I ha him diagnosed at 3 1/2. Skip the pediatrician and go straight to a psychiatrist or neologist. My pediatrician was no help either. My son is 5 now and from day 1 of taking medican he has been a completly different kid. He is so much happier now. Good Luck!

I have a 16 yr old son with adhd. I knew from the time he was two that something wasnt quite right.Signs were always fidgeting like he had a running motor all the time..inappropriate behavior..running into streets..not listening..cant sit still..you should take your child to your pediatrician and have an evaluation done.There is a whole series of questions used to pinpoint adhd.We chose to use medication with him and therapy as well.He is doing well and is a normal happy teen.There is a website www.chadd.com that has support and information about add and adhd.There are many signs that encompass adhd..the website can help

Dr's can tell by age 6 if a child has adhd. Teachers & your opinion also are things the dr goes by to tell this. My child is going to be 7 years old & was diagnoised around age 5 with adhd. It is rough but its worth taking her in & getting checked for it - it never hurts to try. I thought with my kid that it was just being a kid - then the school complained daily. One day i went in & said ok we'll see if a trial od medication works & oddly ehough it was helping - i saw a big change. Like all people though - it is up to you on what you feel comfortable with.
