Acrylic Tumblers Stuck Together

Hi, Moms. I have two acrylic (clear plastic) drinking tumblers that stack by nesting one into another. They are etched with pineapples and I bought them at Bealls. Trouble is, two are really stuck together. I believe someone in my helpful family stacked them when they came out of the dishwasher still damp and steamy without drying them. We have tried pulling them apart and even put them in the freezer. Any ideas or do I have to toss them? Thanks.

What can I do next?

put ice in the inside one and dip the outside in a sink full of hot water, hopefully the outside one will expand with the heat while the inside one contracts from the cold. I think that would be the only solution. Or just call it the "double cup" from now on :)

Cold contracts -- heat expands. So if you run hot water over the outside one (expanding it) and cold water in the inner one (contracting it) they will come apart. Sometimes you have to wiggle them a bit but it has always worked for me.

maybe try putting them in the freezer? If Grandma's idea doesn't work... love the 'double cup' idea!

It definitely works if you submerge them both in a pot with warm water and just leave them there for a little while. I had that happen to me in my lab with two glass beakers and it worked well. Try it.

You have to un-suction it.
Change the temp, as Grandma T. said.

In addition to the ice/warm water thing from Grandma, maybe try to carefully drizzle a little oil in between them. Probably too tight to do that, but just in case that might be worth a try. Let us know if you ever get them unstuck. I have seen cups like this at Kohls on sale and they were stuck just like this and I didn't want to purchase them even if they were on clearance because I figured I could never ever unstick them!

Either toss them in to the recycle bin or use them for a science experiment, plant seeds, re-use as a flower vase. Be creative.

I hate it when that happens, seriously, it's so frustrating! I've had luck just immersing them in water, or holding them under a running faucet. I'm glad for the cold/hot idea, will try that next time it happens to me.

I agree with Grandma but wanted to add if you have been washing them in the dishwasher they could be sticking due to small cracks that form from the dishwasher. If that is the case you may end up cracking one of the cups pulling them apart.
