A Virus or Something More Serious?

My 3 year old DD started throwing up Saturday evening (unfortunately we were at a party at my brother’s house) and continued through the night, ending at 5:30am. We thought she was done until yesterday (Sunday) around 12:30pm she did it again. Then nothing until 9:30pm tonight (Monday). Is there something going around or should I be more concerned and take her to see her doctor? My husband, 1 year old and I had a virus the week before Christmas, but it was a little different than what she’s going through, plus that was 3 months ago. I should add that she’s had a little appetite, but it’s not back to normal of course. So she’s been able to keep some things down. And she’s had no fever and her energy level is normal. I know there are lots of illnesses going around right now, so I’m just wondering if anyone has had, or your children have had, something similar. My 1 year old has her 15 month check-up Tuesday/today so I can take my 3 year old with me. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your responses. So far she's been better (it's 8:45 pm) and eaten more today. The doctor said he saw another 3 year old today with the same symptoms and it appears to be a short lived virus. He said, as you all did, to just keep her hydrated. Thanks again.

It's only been a few days. A stomach virus can take longer to go away. If her mood and energy are good and she's getting fluids, I wouldn't worry yet.

Here in San Francisco, my high school age son had a stomach virus that lasted nearly a week, with daily vomiting and diarreha. He was still hungry, and very frustrated that he could not eat! The advice nurse suggested lots and lots of fluid; she said lots of patients were becoming dehydrated and to make sure patient was peeing frequently. Good luck, and hope your child feels better soon.

2 weeks ago, my 3-yr-old son also started throwing up on Sunday evening, out of the blue. We saw a friend that morning whose daughter stayed home and was throwing up all weekend, and we figured there must be something in the air. My son threw up 3 more times that evening, even after drinking some water. He rarely chucks up his food, so we knew it had to be viral. We kept him on liquids only on Monday, but he still threw up once. He had a slight fever on that 2nd day but it never went beyond 101 and the fever left him that night. By Tuesday he was hungry so I gave him dry toast to munch on for breakfast. He threw that up by lunch. He didn't have anything solid until Thursday afternoon and was able to keep his food down. But it started coming out the other end and he had no control over his BM's. By Tuesday (9 days after), he was able to control his poop and his appetite was back to normal. Throughout this, I didn't go to the hospital since his mood was fine and he didn't seem sluggish (after the 2nd day). I received advice from my pediatrician and Advice Nurse on what and when to feed him. I was told to give only liquids to hydrate my son and wait until a whole day passes without him throwing up before trying solids. Start out slow with dry crackers and bread, no added fat like butter or spreads. No dairy. Hope your daughter gets better soon!

I suggest it's a virus. My daughter and her children have had similar symptoms.
