my 7 year old has been running a fever anywhere from 101-103 going on two weeks tomorrow.. on the 5th day into the fever, i took her to the doctor with reoccuring fever and a cough that had just started the night before. she examined her and said she seemed fine, she was probably getting over a bug. she said if she was sick after a week into it, to bring her back.. a week into it i bring her back, once again said she seemed fine but she was going to put her on an antibiotic since it had been a week. everything seemed ok for a day or two and then i got called to come get her from school. she now has a fever of 102.4 that will not go down with meds.. it has been at this temp for 5hrs now.. what is wrong with my child? she seems to have no other symptoms but a headache and a slight cough.

What can I do next?

I'd ask for a urine test & bloodwork. She could have a UTI with no other signs or a kidney infection.

I have to agree that it has gone on long enough and I'm afraid that I would have lost confidence in my Dr. by now. I would take her to an urgent care center or another Dr. My first thought was a bladder/kidney infection also but I am not a medical professional. Follow your instincts mama.... it's time to demand some answers and be an advocate for your daughter's health.

I'm sorry no one has answered your question here. What a trial that you're going through!

Did the doctor do any bloodwork on your child? How have you been able to take her to school with this temp? They usually won't let a child stay at school with a temp over 100.

I don't care much for your doctor letting her go so long with a fever. I'd demand bloodwork to be done, to be honest. If you get no help from the doctor, I'd be finding the closest Children's Hospital to you. At the very least, an ER with a ped's attending...

So sorry.

I'm sorry your daughter is going thru this. I would take her to the ER!!! A fever, in itself, is usually concern enough because it's telling you something is wrong - BUT when it's that high for that long, I would definitely be looking for answers from someone else.

Please don't feel bad or guilty because you want to take her somewhere else - your doctor actually should have referred you to either the ER or at least should have ordered some blood tests, urine tests, etc.

Good luck!!!
