The honest truth is that it doesn't matter a whit if you are paranoid or not, pregnant or not, there is NOTHING you can do about the situation EXCEPT relax! You are a mom with a 2 1/2 year old boy. Take a deep breath, deal with what today throws at you, and tomorrow you will deal with tomorrow.
I have had a miscarraige for no reason and have also fallen hard 10 feet in early pregnancy and had a perfectly healthy baby. AS much as the world claims you are responsible for EVERYTHING, you aren't.
Take a deep breath, and one day at a time.
May the Force be with you.

Blood does NOT cause a false positive on a home pregnancy test. you use an HPT to test for hCG hormone which does not normally reside in menses or any other blood unless there is a pregnancy, or some other health issue (as another poster stated above)

I'd go to your doctor and have your levels drawn. But, It could just be implantation bleeding too. So i would go see that Doc. Good luck!

I, too, had to use progesterone suppositories with my pregnancy (which was preceded by 3 miscarriages). Even so, the doctor said it was not the "reason for sure" that the pregnacy was complete.
If there's O. thing I do know, if a pregnancy is meant to be--it will. If it's not, it won't. Do not blame yourself IF this is a miscarriage. With all of my miscarriages, I never really :lost" the baby, I had to have D&C's to remove them after confirmation of no heartbeat.
I never had really heavy pink or red bleeding either....I'm not saying this to scare you, just to impress that there is no substitute for seeing your health care professional. You can't assume your body/pregnancy/symptoms are like everyone OR anyone else's. If you are scared & unsure, see your doctor. God bless.

i would not worry unless you start bleeding more like a period. i know because i had a miscarriage. miscarriages also are normally accompanied by bad cramps also. you will know if you are really having one or not. it is normal to spot a little in the first trimester. do not worry yourself or stress. everything will be fine.

I had a false positive... i am pretty sure because of blood/protien in my urine. (i have a kidney disease) I just wanted to let you know that it does happen. On the other hand, congrats if you are...i guess time will tell :-)

Get to your OBGYN STAT! I started spotting right after I became pregnant with my 2nd (I hadn't been to the doctor yet).
I called them and they told me to come in. They did some tests and my progesterone levels were low. I had to be on progesterone supplements until 16 weeks, I believe. And they told me NO SEX! Without the progesterone supplements, I would have miscarried. Now I've got a healthy 5 1/2 year old boy!

It is possible that when the embryo implants in your uterus, there is a small amount of bleeding, thus the brown, stringy stuff. That said, take another pregnancy test and call your OB.

Best of luck!

If it was brown then it is old blood just like I saw some other people mention. It is probably just a small collection of blood from when the egg implanted.
If it were pink in the mucous, then I'd be a little more worried. However that can still be ok. I had a miscarrage at 12 weeks. It started with some pink streaks in the mucous when I wiped. By the end of the day I was bleeding like a period and cramping. I lost the baby completely.
But my friend was pregnant with twins and had pink and mild spotting on and off in the beginning.
To put your mind at ease, I'd call the OB. They can run levels a couple days apart to make sure they are rising. And they may also do an ultrasound, but it is usually best when you are far enough along to see the heartneat. That is when you can usually relax a bit.
Good Luck!!

I have had this type of bleeding with each pregnancy. They say its dark because its old blood that is there and sometimes produced when the egg attaches to the uterus. Try not to worry, but having been in your shoes, I know its easier said than done. I'll pray for you and your baby.

If it's not heavy, could just be implantation spotting. I'd make an appt. with your ob as soon as possible though just to confirm the HPT. Best of luck and Congrats!

Sometimes it takes a bit longer for the HcG levels to get high enough to register on the pee tests. For me, the most reassuring thing to do is to have my doctor call in a request for a QUANTITATIVE HCG test. This requires blood to be drawn and the test should be repeated at approximately 48 hours later. In approx 80% on "normal" pregnancies, the HcG level will double every 48-72 hours. Earlier it's usually closer to 48 and as you get closer and closer to 12 weeks, it starts to take longer.

Brown blood is not something I would freak out too much about - although it is very scary. Brown indicates old blood. It's likely related to implantaiton. I had brown bleeding with my successful second pregnancy. FWIW, when I miscarried my first, I didn't get a postive pee test until much later and when I started bleeding it was an incredible red color that I've never seen before and hope to never see again.

Best wishes to you for a happy healthy pregnancy.

I wish I could help you more, however, all I know is that when I got pregnant with my son I had a small period before I actually found out that I was pregnant. I kept wondering why my period never continued so since we had been trying for another baby I went ahead and took the pregnancy test. I had a couple times of break through bleeding, but everything turned out okay. All I know is I would call my doctor immediately and see if they would give me a pregnancy blood test and ask them about the bleeding. I wish I could help more...

I beg of you to please see your doctor to be positive of your situation. I once took 3 tests on 3 separate days because I missed my period. The first test said positive, the second negative, the third positive.....then I miscarried. This was pretty scary. It is extremely important to seek help in this matter to insure healthy pregnancies now or in the future. I hope I haven't said anything to upset you.......but I am genuinely concerned. I have had two miscarriages. I had a beautiful daughter, I had a miscarriage. Got pregnant again....I had another beautiful daughter...but miscarried her twin. I then got pregnant and had a handsome little boy. I hope everything turns out alright for you, but don't get discouraged. I wish you the best of luck.

I would recommend you go see a doctor. I had the same symptoms 12 years ago and found out the hard way that I had an ectopic pregnancy. Had I had it checked out right away I may not have had to go through an emergency surgery for a ruptured tube. It may be nothing but I would definitely go see a dr.

My understanding is that if you miscarry at this point, it would be as if you had a normal period. The bottom line is that time will tell. If you are going to miscarry, this is nothing that will stop it. For now, I would just advise that you take it easy, and see what happens.

I had a miscarriage at 12-13 weeks, and it happened over several days. I started to spot on a Thurs., and finally decided to go to work on Friday, because I figured it would or wouldn't happen -- and I miscarried on Saturday morning.

At the time, the gynocologist told me that my chances of having a normal pregnancy before the miscarriage were always 75%. And after the miscarriage? the same 75%. He also said that when there's an "abnormal" pregnancy (his words), there might or might not have actually been fetal tissue involved.

I was around 36 when I had my miscarriage, and even at that ripe age, I ended up having two more pregnancies, both of which were perfectly, boringly normal and produced healthy children. (yeah, both were "unplanned" and were real gifts to both me and my spouse. Due to age, we weren't planning on having more kids, but we're truly blessed to have them now ! :-) )

so try not to worry (too much). If you feel you need to see a doctor, by all means, call your family physician. But if you do end up with a period, then just wait a while and try again.

When I carried my daughter, I took a pregnancy test, then in my 6th week started to bleed - the same type of bleeding your talking about. I carried my daughter almost to term, she came three weeks early. Anyhow, the type of bleeding you are experiencing if it stays dark brown and not bright red - can be typical of implantation of the egg, or just residual because this would be the normal time for your cycle to start. This does not necessarily mean you are having a miscarriage. If you do some research you will find out that (this can be done on line or even better if you have the book - "What to expect when your expecting") this type of bleeding is very common at the beginning of pregnancy and usually nothing to worry about. Also, as long as you don't get heavy menstral bleeding this pregancy should be as wonderful as your first one. Good luck and my prayers for you and your family.

Is this your period? Blood(any traces) can make a test positive. I sure hope you are preg as it is was you want, but call the doctor just to be sure. Also, maybe your body needed to get rid of waste from last month, and it did it today. I would not worry until you talk to the doc...Not TMI, just a question....Let us know

Dear C.,

I completely understand your worry. First, if you can relax. Sometimes during pregnancy there is what is called "break away bleeding". It can occur during implantation and during your normal cycle time for your period - so don't fret. Also, dark brown blood is old blood verses bright red/pink blood being new blood.

To put your mind at ease, I suggest you call your midwife or OB and explain your worries. They can write a script for an ultrasound to verify implantation or they may suggest you "wait and see".

Also, from your post you could be not pregnant and just late - so it would not be a miscarriage. It sounds like you are so excited to be pregnant again. That is wonderful! Why don't you wait another week to assure that your period is not starting and then retake a home pregancy test (if you can stand waiting). If you can't stand waiting call your OB/ midwife, make an appointment for a pregnancy test and discuss your concerns about miscarriage.

Good wishes for you! Try not to be nervous and try to stay positive and relax.

Like someone else mentioned, I think I read in the Girlfriend's Guide To Pregnancy that dark brown means it's "old blood" which is good (apparently). Anything that makes you want to throw up though is never good, right!? I had spotting while pregnant w/ my son and the doctors could never explain why it happened. And like you described, mine was brown. I'd go to the doctor and have them confirm the pregnancy and let them tell you that everything is fine. I always feel more confident when someone in a white lab coat tells me something. PS - My first pregnancy test turned negative and then a few days later it was positive. You probably just took the first test too early and your hormone levels didn't register yet. The instructions on the box will tell you that it's more common to get a false negative than it is to get a false positive.

Well, it's hard to say. It is very possible that if you ARE pregnant, that it's just implantation bleeding, which is quite common.
Unfortunatlely, it's one of those things that you just have to wait & see with.
You can start drinking Red Raspberry Leaf tea & Pregnancy Tea, which is great even before you become pregnant to help tone & strenghthen your uterus. Red Rasp. Leaf tea is wonderful to drink at ALL stages of our lives. They both make very nice iced teas if you don't care for hot herbal teas.

Think positive thoughts! I wish you lots of luck!

I would always call the OB with any bleeding. I had some pink spotting when I was about 7 weeks along and called. They said it was "probably" implantation bleeding (when the egg implants into the uterus), but they sent me for an ultrasound just in case and thankfully everything was fine. However, I think when in doubt it's best to check it out.
