5 Month Old Daughter Put on Estrogen Cream

I took my 5 month old daughter in for a well baby visit with her doctor yesterday. While examining her she found that her vaginal hole was almost completely closed up. She said this was no big deal that I just needed to put a prescription estrogen cream on her vagina until it opens back up. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this and could offer some feedback.

What can I do next?

Hi Amanda,

My daughter (now 14months) had pretty much the same thing. She had a thin film over her's. They broke some of it open where it was very thin, but for the rest they prescribed the cream. They also told me that it's no big deal...apparently it's pretty common. Anyway, she's been just fine for a while now...it didn't take too long to fix itself (with the help of the cream). So don't worry at all. It will go away and it's nothing to worry about!

My daughter had the same thing when she was about 2 months old. I used the cream for a couple of weeks along with petroleum jelly in between doses and she is completely fine now. I had never heard of such a thing either, but apparently it is more common than you would think. Don't worry!

I have a friend who just wentthrough the same thing. I had never heard about it until her daughter, but I guess it's fairly common and not a big deal. Her daughter was prescribed estrogen cream as well. She's a little bit older than your daughter but last time I talked with her she was fine.

My daughter has the same issue. We noticed it very early(few weeks old) and I was told to put KY jell on it and to use my fingernail to open it up. The doctor told me that they grow out of it and it will have to be readdressed at puberity since it closed up slightly. I noticed the other day that it is continuing to close and she is almost 6 mths. It was my understanding that she would need surgery to correct it when she reaches puberity. I am curious to see what other people say because I am very worried about how this will affect her in the future i.e. childbirth, intimacy with her husband etc.

The same thing happened to my daughter. She had gotten a rash, and her Dr. told me that when the skin is raw the inside edges can sort of grow together. She used a Q-tip and some ointment and separated the edges. We just had to check occasionally to make sure it stayed separated, and if it started to stick again, she told me to use a swab and some ointment and gently separate it again. Fortunately, I never had to worry about that, it healed up fine and she hasn't had a problem since.

The Dr. said it's not that uncommon in little girls, especially if they've had a bad diaper rash.

My 3-year-old daughter has had the same problem since she was 6-months-old. I have had to battle this since then, but now that she's potty-trained it's getting better. There is hope for this, you just have to wait it out!

My oldest daughter had the same thing. It was no big deal. We put the cream on and it helped. A few months later we had to do the same thing. It was really nothing to worry about though.
