Hello! My two year old son has woke with stiffness in his legs, difficulty walking, and a slight limp each morning for a few weeks now. We had a stomach bug about three weeks ago, and he had it for five days. I thought he was lame from the bug. This morning he woke and had a very hard time walking. Within an hour he is usually walking pretty normal again, and by mid day he seems fine. We have an appointment tomorrow with his ped. Just curious if anyone else has experienced this.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

UPDATE 6/10/16: About one week after all his tests, the back of his leg broke out in awful eczema. He sometimes limps when the eczema flares up.
UPDATE 4/8/16: ALL test results came back normal Negative for Lyme.

Thanks everyone for your responses! We only waited because he had an awful stomach bug and figured he was recovering plus it was very minor initially, barely noticeable. We went to the pediatrician on Tuesday, they don't seem concerned but said it was worth looking into, so we had blood work done. They did Lyme panel, muscle protein, SED, and CBC with diff and platelets. He was walking perfectly fine at the pediatrician's office. His walk seems to be better the past two mornings. I will update once we have the results.

My daughter woke up not being able to walk when she was 2. Her knee was inflamed and I knew she had not fallen. They checked her for rheumatoid arthritis, Lyme disease and several other things. Turned out she had Lyme disease.

Good luck tomorrow. I know how scary these symptoms are.

My son started limping at age two, and after a few days stopped walking altogether. Turned out he has JRA (juvenile rheumatoid arthritis) which is an autoimmune disorder. He has flare ups several times a year (he is 10 now) that are easily treated with OTC anti-inflamitories, and the doctors say there is every chance he may outgrow it with puberty. I also have arthritis and the stiffness is alway worse for both of us in the mornings or after periods of inactivity. Staying active helps keep the joint from getting stiff during the day.

I don't have an answer, but I'm very concerned about your little guy. Please let us know what the doctor says.

My nephew started limping at age 2. It was off and on. Sometimes he favored one leg and sometimes the other. His mom thought it was growing pains. Then she thought he was just fooling around (he's quite a ham!). Around age 7 he was finally diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. He did treatments and is fine as of this year...he is almost 11. They have to watch to see if it comes back, but so far things are great.

You'd be surprised by what dehydration can do to little guys. My son complained of having a bobble head a couple of times, walked a little off, and his neck felt weird. Turns out that both times he was dehydrated. A little Gatorade in the doctor's office, and within 15 minutes, he was back to normal. I was a little embarrassed (yet relieved) to be freaking out when it was something so simple.
