Can you all please help me with ideas for celebrating my 15th anniversary? I have only lived here for 3 years and am very unfamiliar with activities in the area that do not center on kids. January 7 is the date, and we REALLY need to do something special (we haven't had much time alone together in the past 2 years). We can't stay overnight (because we have no family here), so we need something that is short enough for hiring a babysitter (and has to be somewhere outside of our house). It could be a day or night activity and it could either be romantic or just memorable. We actually prefer memorable to romantic. (It can't be physical activity, though - like cross-country skiing or something requiring a lot of walking - due to my husband's disability).

Thanks for your help. I'm looking forward to your suggestions.

Sometimes I actually just prefer having a romantic candle-lit dinner which we do at home, followed up by cuddling on the couch with a movie.

I have also 'set the stage' with silk rose petals after hubby has gone out for an errand (something we need at the last minute that I'll come up with). The petals are strewed across the floor leading to the bedroom with it lit only by candles. This is the best one that offers memories, closeness and wonderful times together. Especially after the movie. :)

I feel it will have to come down to your preference as you know your husband best.

The Fisher Theater has wonderful plays. I think Jersey Boys is beginning soon...it is a fabulous show, and I think it would be 'memorable'. You could have a nice dinner out first.

Hi A.,

Like Markasa, I also recommend Frankenmuth! Have you ever been there? The two main restaurants there are Bavariann Inn and Zhenders...they are literally across the street from each other and are actually connected through underground shops! They both have shops connected to the restaurants, and when you go downstairs (where there are even more shops), you can walk to the other restaurant! The food is GREAT (both restaurants have the same food/menu). The restaurants are located on Main Street, and there are many shops on that road, so you can do as little or as much shopping as you want! The shops are cute and even if you don't buy anything, its still fun to see everything. Even if you don't go any further than the shops in the restaurants, its still worth visiting!

You mentioned your husband has a disability...is he in a wheel chair? If so, it might be hard for you to visit some of the shops on main street (I don't remember how many are wheel-chair accessible, but for sure some of them are.) Both Zehnders and Bavariann Inn are wheel chair-accessible, and both have elevators to bring you to the lower level shops.

If I think of anything else for you guys to do, I will post it later...have fun, and Happy Anniversary!

Hi A.,

Congrats on 15 years:) I suggest Frankmenmuth. It's a straight shot up I-75 North, not a far drive from Metro Detroit, maybe about 1-1/2 hours tops. Check out frankenmuth.org. They have alot of great stores in Frankenmuth, not to mention the Birch Run Outlets if you are into shopping. You can also have a great dinner at either the Bavarian Inn or Zehnder's. There is plenty to do too.

Have fun,

M.
