Hello mamas
My daughter is almost 13 months now and still wakes up 3-4 times a night. I give her some water to drink and she'll fall back asleep right away. I just wish I could do something so I could sleep all night...

What can I do next?

SHe doesn't need water - she's just used to it. You can gradually phase this out by decreasing the amount you give her each night (by 1 oz or so). It's actually likely that her drinking is keeping her awake because she gets wet when she drinks a lot at night. As soon as I stopped my son from drinking a lot of bath water at night - right around 12 months old - he immediately started sleeping through the night.

I would try letting her cry it out! I know that it is a hard thing to do, but she is old enough that she should be able to sleep through the night. She is use to you comming in to give her something to drink! she wont stop that until you stop it! Crying it out is hard, but it works, and if you stick with it, after a week, if not sooner she will be sleeping through the night! I had to do this with all 3 of my kids, and believe me, it broke my heart, but was soooo worth it, and they forever slept through the night1 Good luck!

we had the same problem with my son, it was driving us crazy getting up with him, so what we did was this: we
took plastic clothes hanger and hung it on the front post of his bed then each night we filled a sippy cup with water- the kind with the little handles- and hung the cup on the hanger on his bed, he quickly learned that when he woke up in the middle of the night he could get the water himself and put it right back on the hanger. I know it looked a little strange to those that saw it but everyone in the house was MUCH MUCH MUCH more rested - hope this helps.

Why don't you try keeping a sippy cup in her crib and everytime you go in there show her the cup and give her a drink from it, then put it back. Pretty soon she'll understand that it's there and she can get a drink on her own. I still keep sippy cups in the bed with my kids, they use them because they're empty after a couple of days!!

both my son and daughter had sippy cups with water (no leak)in their cribs at night for bed. just water, no juice or milk. it keeps them quiet, and eliminates the waking ordeal. my son still at 2 keeps a water bottle in his crib and he wakes a few times a night for sips in his sleep, so he doesn't wake anyone!

We leave a sippy cup of water in my 25 month old's crib. She knows it's there in case she gets thirsty.

Like the others said it may just be due to habit; she calls for 'water' in reality, she just wants to see mommy again and enjoys the attention. I agree u need to let her cry it out if she wants u to come give her the water.

Does she excessively drink water during the daytime too? Get her glucose level tested if diabetes runs in your family.

I feel your pain. My youngest son is 15 months old and still wakes up 2-3 times a night. My pediatrician says to let him cry but I believe he is hungry. He eats so little especially for dinner. I think he is hungry when he wakes up crying so I give him a bottle and back to sleep he goes. Same happened with my older son. He did not sleep through the night til he was almost 2. Better luck to you!

I leave a water sippy cup with each of my boys and always have since they could drink on their own (after a couple nights of the older one waking in the night thirsty). That way if they are genuinely thirsty, they can help themselves (and SOME nights they do drink the entire cup of water). It's fine to leave a water sippy cup with them...just not a milk bottle in bed with them because it is bad for the teeth.

You might want to try leaving a sippy cup of water in her crib. Then you can see if it is you she wants or the water. Good Luck

I gotta be honest with you - I think it is something that kids need after reading all of these posts. My son has a sippy of water every night when he goes to sleep. I don't know why and I didn't think anything of it until I saw how many kids on here have it.

I will be a parent on many issues but until my son is off the charts on weight(which he is not) I will not deny food or drink when he wants it. I don't know what his little tummy feels like and I sure don't have anyone telling me no when I overeat!
