Baby Delivery, What Hospital Is Best?

Hi,

I will be delivering my first baby in early Feb.2010. I live in Arcadia, so the Methodist Hospital would be closest to me.
I was wondering if any of you had comments about the Methodist. I was also contemplating going into the Huntington in Pasadena, although it would be farther away.

Any comments? Which one is better?

Thanks!

I don't know much about either when it comes to delivering a baby, however I do know that Arcadia methodist is a great hospital and it always very clean.

I have friends who delivered at Methodist and thought it was great. If I still lived over that way I would have had my daughter there. Instead, she was born at Verdugo Hills, which I loved. I had my twins at Huntington this past Feb. because they were preemies and they have the NICU, whereas VHH doesn't. It was fine, but they deliver so many babies that it is a bit crazy. One shift I only saw a nurse once, and I'd had a c-section. One night I had to have a "box dinner" (sandwich) from the desk because I'd been pumping during dinner time and missed the meal. Seems like they could make meals at other times, but guess not. When I was there in Jan. for a few nights, they didn't even explain about the ordering. Sorry, but when you're pg with twins and are hungry, meal time IS important, lol! If my twins hadn't needed to be delivered early, I would have rather they were born at VHH. Just my preference....but my OB also told me with my first one that I'd like VHH better than Huntington for the very reason that it's more personal because they don't have a gazillion babies being born there. Mine were the third set of twins that day!

Hi,
I have a 8 month old son who was born at Huntington Hospital. It was one of the best experiences I have had. Every nurse was as sweet as can be. They were also really helpful, being as this was my first baby. They have very comfortable birthing rooms. Everything I experienced was top notch!

Hi,

I delivered my daughter in March 2007 at Methodist Hospital and had a wonderful experience. Nurses were great and very helpful and the hospital was clean.

I also had my gall bladder surgery done there and no problems. Its a great hospital.

Methodist is the best!!! I had my first born there back in 2007 and I would not go anywhere else. The nurses are awesome. Maria who helped with my delivery is very experienced and extremely helpful. I don't think I could have gone through with the labor process without her. But the hospital choice is also tie-in with your doctor. I have Dr Morrison and Dr Fong, they are the best and very well known in Arcadia.

I delivered my first baby at Arcadia Methodist almost 6 years ago and it was a great hospital to be a patient at. The worst thing is that it can be a little tricky to find, especially for any visitors that may be wanting to come and see you. I also have a friend who delivered at Huntington Memorial in Pasadena. She said they have a terrific NICU, which hopefully you don't need, but if you do... it would be great to have. Don't worry about the further drive. With the first baby you'll have PLENTY of time to get there! You might check and see whether Arcadia Methodist has a NICU. They didn't when I delivered there, but I know they have completely built a new maternity wing since I was there. Again, hopefully you don't need it, but it would be great to have if you do. Good luck!

Hi M.,

Having lived in Arcadia at the time....I still delivered both of my daughters at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena. My experiences at Methodist have not been as good as at Huntington. I now live in Glendora and STILL go to Huntington with anything. A few years ago my oldest, now 16, had a ruptured appendix (we didn't know it at the time) and the only hospital I trusted is Huntington....Yep, we made the drive. The other thing you need to consider is "does your OB/GYN have privledges at Huntington?" Some doctors can only deliver at certain hospitals...you need to check on that. Go and check out the Labor /Delivery area at both. If you can do either...than my vote is Huntington!

Good luck!

I delivered my two daughters at Huntington and was really pleased with the care, love, and above all my own room!!! My sister in law delivered at Methodist and I have a friend who is a nurse there the quality of care is just as good but if your looking for a more comfertable environment in my opinion Huntington is best. When my sister in law delievered she had to wait several hours in a room with three other mothers before they moved her. The only thing seperating them was a curtain.

hope it helps.

I've delivered at both hospitals. I would lean toward Huntington. My experiences at Arcadia Methodist were not good for labor and delivery, but my postpartum stays both times were fabulous. Talk about feeling pampered! I have known friends who had good experiences delivering at Arcadia, though. The best thing you can do for yourself, though, is to hire a doula. Look around for a good one-you will not be sorry.
