NATURAL SLEEP REMEDIES – A-Zzzz
According to the National Sleep Research Project, a new baby typically results in 400-750 hours of lost sleep for parents in the first year alone. For those of you too tired to do math, it amounts to between 16 days and an entire month!
To help you spend less time tossing and turning before you get to sleep, here are a few natural remedies from Mamapedia mamas who know more than a thing or two about restless nights.
Help getting some much-needed sleep!
Jen V. from APO, AE asks:
I am a mother of 4 very active children. I have trouble going to sleep before 1AM every night. I have not tried any sleeping aids (tylenol pm, etc.) because I am not good with medication. I have been doing research online, but don’t know if what is out there actually works. I just want to know if anyone has tried some natural sleep aide or have any suggestions on how to get more sleep. Thanks!

Hi Jen!
I have used Melatonin (3mg). It’s all natural and is actually produced by your body already. When your levels get low, as mine often do, you need to supplement them. It’s available at Walmart or any other drugstore (and it’s inexpensive). You can start with just one tablet, but take two if needed. Good luck!

Hi Jen.
I had the same problem and I tried an all-natural herb called Valerian and it helped me. You can get it at a health food store and some pharmacies. Remember to relax and take some time for yourself before you go to bed at night, away from your adorable children. I have learned that to take care of my children, I have to take care of myself first.
Good luck to you

Hi.
Understand completely. I am overly sensitive to everything it seems.
I use Dr. Peter Gillham’s Natural Calm Plus. The Plus has Magnesium, calcium, Vitamin C, Potassium and one other thing, I can’t remember. I use the raspberry/lemon flavor. I drink it every night and it completely relaxes me into a good night’s sleep, as long as one of the kids don’t wake up!!
You have to play with it for a few nights to determine how much your body actually needs, but once you figure out the right amount it is wonderful.
You can get it at most health food stores.

Hi Jen,
I’m a busy mom also. My husband is a heavy and loud snorer and when I must sleep I’ll make some Sleepy Time Celestial Tea. It has a light flavor, is not habit forming and inexpensive:) Enjoy!
