Yeast cells spread through contact (direct skin to skin). So that's why some babies can pass thrush on to their moms through breastfeeding.

I have never heard of getting a vaginal yeast infection and having it appear/spread to nipples.

Unless you are NOT washing your hands thoroughly after you go to the bathroom and nursing your child or touching your child's mouth? No. Vaginal yeast infections are not "air borne" and only transfer with contact.

If your nipples are hurting and your child has thrush? It's possible you have cross-contamination.

You can ask your doctor but I don't think you have to worry about it.
If nursing is only a few times a day then this might be a good time to ween - since its for comfort and not so much about nutrition.
If you want to you can mix a cup of plain yogurt into your bath water to help fight the yeast infection.

You and your baby seem to be having a chronic yeast problem.
I have to wonder if it's a symptom of something else.
You've got a track record of infection after infection so make sure its not something else going on - like an std or something messing with your immune system.

I asked my dr that same thing LONG time ago and they told me no.
Added: I looked back at your other questions. They are all about yeast infections and thrush but one of them. Is this the same child as your one that was 6 months old last June? You have obviously had lots of experience with this. You need to talk to your dr on how to prevent these. It may be that you and your child both have an excess amount of yeast in your bodies. If that's the case you may need to change your diet. Stay away from starchy foods and sugars.

You have a serious problem on your hands. You have had some sort of yeast issue with you or your child for over a year.

Please seek out a nutritionist to help you with your diet. Diet plays a HUGE role in overall health. While we all have yeast, it shouldn't keep cropping up over a year. That's a serious problem.

If you have any concern about this, you could ask your dr about treating with diflucan (the oral yeast med) instead of a cream. That would take care of it in both places.

You must be so frustrated - yeast seems to plague you and your family, based on your older posts. I think this might merit a more in-depth conversation with either your PCP, your gyno, or your pediatrician - or perhaps all three. Or perhaps a specialist. Hopefully your doctor called back, but even so, it's not solving your problem. Good luck.

doesn't it make a lot more sense for your nipple pain to be caused by nursing than some sort of convoluted transfer from your vagina to your nipples?

the only way i could see that happening is if you practiced poor hygiene.
