Plain organic whole milk yogurt. If you want, you can mix in a little jam to sweeten. I also use pom juice or cut/pureed fruit.
I find whole milk yogurts do seperate and get lumpy more easily.
The date on this yogurt is usually two weeks or more away when II feed it to my baby. It seems to separate and even curd sometimes. Is this normal for whole milk yogurt? Is there a better brand for my 12 month old? I don't want to give him artificial sweeteners. Thanks for your help!

I don't think Yo baby is homogonized, so that's why. It's just like the cream rising to the top of milk.
I have been buying Yo baby or Stonyfield farm (same brand) Organic Vanilla whole milk yogurt. I buy a plain one also and mix them half and half. That way, the yogurt is sweet, but baby is getting way less sugar than if I gave her the Vanilla straight. But the other day, my husband, who does not know about my mixing trick gave her the plain stuff straight. She ate it like it was the same! So now that I know she likes the plain stuff, I will skip the sugar altogether. Your baby is pretty young, so maybe won't even know the difference just like mine!
It should be fine. Fyi, all my kids loved natural plain organic yogurt with or without fresh fruit cut into it. the Yo Baby has natural sugar, but it's still tons of sugar (it blew my mind how sweet it was when I tasted it), and trains them to need the super sweet taste before they know better. You could alternate with less sweet organic natural ones.
Yes it is normal, my 23 month old likes the organic trader joes yogurt better, also if you looks at the nutrition label on the yo baby it has more sugar than you can imagine for a baby. I switched my son brand but still do organic he loves it it tastes better than yo baby and is a little chaper bc one yogurt can be used for 2 separate feedings..
It is normal. Most of my Yo Baby would do that -especially the blueberry.
