Lotrimin will help clear it up if it is a yeast infection (which it does sound like).
Also - go commando! Get a little air on that tush! Diapers are warm, wet places that germs love to hang out and multiply in! :)
So he has a diaper rash and it is not the normal kind and it won't go away. It looks kind of scaley and has definate edges. I don't know what to do about it. Again I am going to the dr. tomorrow and if it is that does anyone know some home remedies that will fix it. If you don't thinks its yeast what else could it be.
you guys are FAB!!!! It *IS* a yeast infection and she gave me a script but I think I am going to use either the vagisil or lotrimun first. If that doesn't do it then I will just go pick up the script. Thanks a trillion for your advice. If anyone else knows other things, I am soooo open to all and any advice...god bless!

Hi again, K.!
For the rash you can try Dr. Smiths Diaper Rash Cream, which is awesome. If you think it is a yeast infection, apply womens yeast infection cream, like vagisil, to the area at every diaper change. That is what the dr has always told me to do. Have a wonderful day!

Air and sunlight are the best - but it doesn't look as though there will be sunshine coming through your central Texas windows today. If it is warm enough in your house, let him go without a diaper as much as you can. When he wears a diaper, use cloth without plastic pants. However, if you normally use cloth, you need to run them through a wash cycle with a cup of vinegar in the rinse. Yeast tends to stay in cloth diapers without this treatment. If you don't have any cloth, you can slit the legs and lining of disposables in a few places to let the air in.
It might be yeast..
Does she have white patches on her tongue?
Triple Cream is what worked/works wonders for us.
Equal parts:
triple antibiotic (Neosporin)
anti-fungal (Lotrimin)
hydro-cortisone cream (Cortaid)
If you are nursing, and it *is* yeast - you can take a probiotic that will go through your milk and help. If either of you have been on antibiotics, this can upset the bacteria/yeast balance in her/your guts and cause a yeast flare-up. Probiotics are good. A tablet will give you the same or more good gut bacteria than a serving of yogurt.

Are you breastfeeding? If so then eat live culture yogurt. I had to eat some with each of my kids in order to keep the yeast at bay. You can also put lotrimin cream on it and you can put the yogurt directly on the rash.

I think you've gotten good advisement from everyone here.
Aveeno oatmeal bath is also a good method for soothing the rash. It may not help eliminate, but it can help make it feel better for your daughter.
Also, for future reference, citrus has been a bad culprit for yeast diaper rash in our family, so we are avoiding it until we are done with potty training.
Good luck!
You can get baby acidophillus at the people's pharmacy. We carry it at peoples pharmacy. Rubbing white mountain yogurt on it can help it too! Make sure you are letting the area get plenty of air and sunlight. Yeast loves the misture. There is a remedy called gentian violet that is dark blue and gets everywhere but it helps with yeast. You can put it in the mouth. Hope this helps!
My daughetr had the same thing when she was little. The only thing is get strong medication and rub it in thoroughly. Whether it be prescribed by the doctor or use vagisil (externally). I know I know...but, trust me it works. Also, the best thing is to let the child run around naked for a few hours a day. I know you're worried about accidents but, the area needs time to heal therfore needs to air out. That's all you can do really. You might also, want to go to WebMd.com and search for answers. That site's very helpful. Hope all goes well.
