for those who asked he is 21 months. He has had multiple rounds of nystasin oral and rub on. What is probotics??? He has been to 3 doctors and our doctors here are just not good doctors. Ive tried monistat, athletes foot meds, jock itch meds and every other home remedy known for yeast infections. Yes the doctor did say yeast infection and my oldest boy had the same problem but not to this degree. jock itch meds worked on him. He gets changed more than 3 times a day I get at least 3 poopy diapers a day if not more. this is not including wet. I my have to go to tulsa or okc. keep the ideas coming.

Hi D. - if you are concerned about diabetes, then by all means you should take him to see his doctor asap. None of us can diagnose your son and therefore cant give you causes for his apparent infections or sleeplessness.

I hate to seem overly pragmatic but if you see a correlation with juice, then discontinue juice. Too much sugar intake without having diabetes can lead to all the symptoms you mention. Sugar can cause agitation and also provides yeast with their favorite food. Sugar also draws water into the bowel. His sleeplessness could even be caused by the pain of the irritation or bowel pain.

A quick way to know if he is spilling sugar or ketones (protein) into his urine as happens with diabetes is to purchase some of those indicator strips - you can find ones that detect sugar and protein on the same strip. You put the end of the stick into the urine stream and the paper on the end changes color. In 15 seconds, you compare it with a color chart on the bottle that shows you approx. levels of sugar or protein in the urine.

Even if the results are negative, you should still take him to see your doc so that they can evaluate him and run the tests necessary to diagnose him.

I'm not trying to point fingers or say you are doing anything wrong but my sister in law has a similar thing happen with her son and this is what they found out. Juice made her son's pee stronger and more irritating than if he just has milk or water. Add to that the fact that she felt that if the diaper was just wet it didn't need to be changed and they would let him walk around in a very wet diaper for hours. She actually had a 3 diaper a day limit (which I think is crazy) So he was often left wet for too long causing bacteria to grow and yeast infections. Yeast is all around us and it loves to grow in moist areas. So once they started changing him more the infections stopped. Again I'm not trying to say you don't change your son enough but that is just my sister in laws experience and maybe your son is very sensitive down there so he needs extra care.

Sounds like you need to at least talk to your pediatrician about this. Stop looking on the internet as it will just scare the hell out of you.
You don't say the age of your son...
But it sounds like you've already identified O. big cause: juice. Stop offering him juice. The juice is probably causing his diarrhea too. Keep his bottom very very clean and dry.
Please make sure to have this diagnosed by a doctor. Poor little guy, I'll bet he's just miserable.

My 2-yr-old son gets diarrhea after even a few ounces of diluted juice, so we've all but cut it out of his diet. When he's craving something sweet to drink, I make him decaf tea (chamomile or peach, usually) with a little honey. As for the yeast infections, get a prescription for Nystatin and try cholorine-free diapers for the duration of the rash (we use pampers but when his bottom is sore we switch to 7th Generation) - the combo of the less irritating diapers and the Nystatin has him healed within 24 hours. Good luck!

Mom, diarrea is usually too much sugar in diet, or was for my boys, yeast infection might be too much acid from juice, put half juice and half water, with sweetner. or make simple syrup to sweeten the drink, that way there won't be too much sugar, because it will go further. Don't need so much sugar in it, and will cut down on acid of fruit. Worked for my boys, good luck, may God bless and keep you and yours, listen to your instinct and talk to him, does his stomach get upset? etc. good luck

My 1-year-old son gets them all the time. The doc said that some people are just more prone to them and that they are caused by his dirty diapers (by the way, I NEVER leave him dirty or wet). She said that after every poopy diaper to wash him from the waist down, dry thoroughly and, if he currently has the rash, to put the prescription medication on his behind. If there is no rash, she said just to wash and dry from the waist down. She said that sometimes we cannot get him completely clean with wipes, even though it looks as if we do and that it is worse with diarrhea, which I have found to be true. This is a BIG pain to do every time he poops, although he does not poop three times per day, but it has been working since his 1 year appointment three weeks ago. After his rash cleared up, he has not had another and he had been having them at least once a week, even if just a small one. She did not mention diabetes, so you might be worried over nothing, at least I hope you are. Good luck!

Yeast feeds off of sugar. I know a woman who had a systemic yeast infection (caused headaches) and the doctor said she had too much sugar in her diet and that she needed to drink more water. Keep in mind that milk has sugar in it as well. The reason why it can be a sign of diabetes is that a diabetic has more sugar in their blood because their body either a) does not produce insulin or b) has trouble using the insulin that it has produced (often due to an excess of fatty cells).

That aside, yeast needs moisture to grow - try using some powder and to change his diaper frequently, maybe even try to change diaper brands - in order to make sure that he stays dry.

Since all the signs lead you to believe diabetes and juice is high in sugar, I would say get him to the doctor immediately. They can do blood tests to see if he is truly diabetic or just has an allergy that is causing this. In the meantime, put a cap full natural apple cider vinegar in his bath water every night. You can only find it at a health food store. When my dd gets yeast infections we do that for 2 or 3 nights in a row and she quits itching and bleeding.

Organic Yogurt will really help you can also apply the plain organic yogurt directly to the infection. Also I recommend Arbonne baby skin care products. My grandson was an Arbonne baby and his parent ran out (how I'm not sure since I his Grandma am a consultant) they used something else on his skin and that was all it took and he had it and it was bleeding too they took him to the Dr. and the RX meds didn't do anything for it. They started using the Arbonne again and we started giving him yogurt daily also and he absolutely loves Yo Baby Yogurt I love it too now. If you would like to try a sample of the Arbonne ABC baby products I would be happy to send you a free sample. The Diaper Rash Ointment is the best around! Send me a private response for my info. I hope he feels better really soon.

Hi D., Juice will aggravate a yeast infection. Recurring yeast infections can be a sign of diabetes but PLEASE don't go to webmd.com anymore. You need to take him to a doctor. Both of my kids have diabetes and they didn't have ANY sleep problems or any of the symptoms that you mentioned.
As one poster said, if it's worse with juice, don't let him drink it. I agree with everyone who said get him some probiotics. Probiotics will increase the good bacteria in his gut and fight the bad bacteria. Juice (even if it's all natural) and any type of sugar will make the yeast grow and make him feel miserable.
I recommend that you go back to the doctor and ask for a diabetes test. They will draw blood and do a urine test and you will know within an hour if he has diabetes. But, unless he is drinking water in HUGE amounts and peeing several times an hour, I doubt it's diabetes.
If the doctors can't get rid of the yeast, go to a chiropractor. They can help you get his body back in balance.

How old is your boy???

Are you sure it is yeast infections? Did his Doctor diagnose it?

When I was a child/baby, whenever I drank juices, I got what my Mom called "red bottoms." And it hurt. It was the acids in the juice that irritated my skin.

try diluting the juice you give him 50-50 with water. Or don't give him juice.

If it is not a yeast infection, and you are putting yeast creams on him, it will make it worse or not help. You need to pinpoint if it is indeed a yeast infection.

You could also try and give him yogurt or probiotic yogurts. To balance his system, internally. Versus just putting topical creams on his bottom.

All the best,
Susan

Take your son to a DOCTOR immediately and have him tested . If you suspect diabetes, he needs to be on medication. It is very dangerous. Don't try to "figure" this out yourself. Your son's health and well-being is too improtant.

You definitely need to get probiotics in him. If it is yeast that will help. Probiotics also help with building immunities to fight illness and allergies. It may even help with the diarrhea.
How old is he? Is he old enough to take a tiny pill? Here is a probiotic smaller than a pea: http://healinghappens.myshaklee.com/us/en/products.php?sk...

Will he eat yogurt? That could help too.

Have you tried daily probiotics? I know that a round of antibiotics can cause yeast. A continuous imbalance of probiotics can cause yeast issues. So can a wet invironment (which is why so many babies get it in their diapers.)

In babies and breasts it's thrush, in older boys and men it's jock itch, in women it's your typical yeast infection. But they are all related.

It may take a prescription like you would take for recurrent vaginal yeast infections to really knock it out. But, in women once you get them, you are more likely to get them again, so I'm guessing that it's the same for men.
