It doesn't matter at this point what the symptoms are or are not. If you see something on your son that does not look normal, you should contact his pediatrician and make an appointment. Children are usually treated different than adults if it is a yeast infection. Not to sound gross, but if you or someone else (daycare provider) has had a yeast infection and did not properly wash their hands, then may have touched him, changing his pants, etc, he could get the infection that way. Best thing is to call his pediatrician and make an appointment. Don't delay it. Better to catch things early and treat them appropriately.
Lotrimin works great - it is over the counter. My son got a yeast infection while on antibiotics. It looked like a diaper rash that would not respond to our usual desitin creamy. He was trying to itch it terribly during diaper changes. The Dr. put him on lotrimin and betadine baths twice a day. (the betadine keeps the area very clean - betadine is available over the counter as well - just a few capfulls in the bath will do it. These two products will heal it in no time!
You may want to add Probiotics in his diet and consult a Naturopath for additional suggestions for any underlying symptoms.
My grandson was prone to yeast infections until he was potty trained. He had irritation, itching, pretty much the same symptoms his mommy & I would have. Over the counter remedy cleared it right up. Talk to your doctor. C.

My little one has had yeast infection after taking or while taking antibiotics. It looks like a diaper rush but diaper rush ointments won't make it go away. My pediatrician prescribed Nystatyn and it worked great.
Good luck.
You should look for itching, burning, and a cottage cheese like discharge, with a fishly like smell
A red rash. The very best thing for that is to buy some probitoics from the health food store. They make it for babes, and it ups the immune system and is fantasic for health. have him eat yogurt too!
Yeast causes lot of problems, so nip it in the bud and take the
system approach and get rid of it with probitocs. It has the same stuff as yogurt in it.
Does he eat lots of sugar?
Sugar encourages yeast growth in the body.
Be Blessed,

hi D. J,
if he has a bad odor coming out from the creases of his skin, he may have yeast. if he was a girl of course it would be from her vagina. check his tongue to see if it has a lot of white patchy goop on it. if you can scratch it off, he probably has yeast. he will also have ear infections and just have colds, etc.
i would suggest that you go to a good pediatrician and check him maybe for diabetes too. i pray in the name of Jesus that he doesn't have that. if he doesn't, then you can control all this with his diet. go on the net and look for a diet low in yeast, no white breads, etc. only whole wheat....it will take some adjusting but at least you will have a happier child, less moody, less tantrums, less sickness and know that you are doing your very best to keep him healthy as possible.
i wish you well, L.
PS look up the Feingold diet. that is remarkable for a lot of things....
As a Day care professional I have seen many cases of yeast infections and each one can look alittle different. It is usually a red, raised blotch on or near the diaper area(although I have even seen a few cases of yeast around the outside of the mouth). It can also look prickly and bumpy. It is also usually painful and I've seen it bleed more often than not. The most tell tale sign is that normal diaper cream won't fix it. With my own kids if I suspected yeast I would buy Lotrimin(yes, athlete's foot cream-yeast is a fungus), the store brand works just as well. You can even apply a layer of diaper cream or vaseline over the antifungal cream to act as a barrier. Depending on your child's age I wouldn't apply it more than a few times a day. This has been a tried and true method and I believe it to work better and is safer than the prescription creams and steroids the doctors may perscribe.

MY 3 and a half year old daughter gets yeast infections really easy, especially if she plays in the bath tub for too long. When she has one, she has white/yellow-ish discharge and it is really thick and sticky. It also stinks really bad and she walks around itching herself. Her vagina gets really red, like bright red and she gets little pimple like sores on the insides of her vulva. She has to get an antibacterial cream and an antifungal cream. Over the counter, you can try something for jock itch. My hubby's doctor recommended using a footcream that is for athletes foot. But you may want to check with the doc before you put anything adult strenght on him, it could be a sign of something more serious.
It can appear like a diaper rash, but Diaperene won't clear it up. It's very red and hurts to have anything touch it. Best to leave it open to air dry and get to a doctor immediately, as you will need special medicine to make it go away. Good luck!
My daughter used to get these all the time all over her front side. It just looked like little (tiny) red bumps all over and the skin was pinkish underneath. My doctor just had me buy some vagasil to put on it whenever it broke out. That cleared it w/i a day or too. It is caused when an area is dark and moist a lot.
Hi D.
One of my boys is prone to yeast infections in the diaper area.He is 24 months old. He particularly gets yeast after an antibiotic. The area is very very red. One might describe it as an angry red. It may be a little puffier than the surrounding area with little tiny bumps maybe but not like pimply. Nothing over the counter that I put on it will help until his ped. prescribes a yeast ointment for the area. It clears almost immediately after I put on the ointment prescribed for yeast. I can recognize the area if it is yeast now..by the RED coloration. I am probably not telling you anything you do not know when I say yeast most often develops in warm moist areas such as the "privates" and the mouth.
Good luck, K.
hi D.
My son used to get them all the time, basically what it looks like is really RED areas, that sit up off the skin. Almost like a really bad diaper rash. It's very painful to wipe in the area also. I took my son to the doctor & got some medicated cream, that worked but it took forever to clear up. Then on a seperate time he got one, I didn't have anymore cream....but I used Neosporin. That had the whole thing cleared up in 1 day! But I will tell you that diaper rash cream makes it worse...learned that the hard way. But either way my son hasn't gotten one since he has been potty trained.
