Diaper Rash or Yeast Infection

My daughter has had several yeast infections. Hers were caused by being on antibiotics or when she has several bowel movements in a short time. The only way I was able to tell the difference in the yeast infection and rash was that the diaper rash cream wouldn't clear it up. My doctor prescribed a cream called Nystatin. I have had the same tube since my daughter got her first one because it usually only takes a couple of times to clear it up. Good luck!

Yeast is a bacteria...it can be caused by many things including not cleaning bottles thoroughly and not wiping all the creaves properly during diaper changes. I would suggest trying to keep that area as dry as possible...i even use a little baby powder in thee little folds of skin on my baby. It can be confusing and even agitating..for you and the baby...so good luck!

lotrimin or even just warm up some yogurt & stick it right on their rash. Helps a lot.

I am not sure of the exact difference to be honest. My daughter has had a yeast infection and diaper rash. I do suggest leaving her without a diaper for a few mins everytime you change her or after a bath. When not in "nakey break" try Desitin. I found the regular (thicker) version to work much better than the other creamy versions. The thicker version seemed to protect better than an "easy wipe off" protection. Seemed to make sense since my daughter was in diapers.Try this for a few days if it does NOT get any better then it will more than likely be a yeast infection which you will have to take her in to get an ointment to put on it and it will work quick.

Well, honestly, if she was on an antibiotic, it is still quite likely that it is a yeast infection. I have girls, and they have had this often, and the main reason I knew it was a yeast infection was that aquaphor didnt clear it up. My old (and most trusted) pediatrician told me to use regular Lotrimin on the infected area, and I have seen results within the day. Be careful of thick creams because they will keep the wetness on the area, and the yeast will get worst. There is no discharge or other things we as women associate with a yeast infection, it really does look like a rash. It should clear up quickly, but keep treating it for a few days after, just to make sure! Take care and good luck. ~A.~

"diaper rash" is a yeast infection! Candida comes from the GI tract, which is probably over grown with candida recently because of the antibiotics! Treat with an over the counter yeast medicine, and if that doesnt clear it up, I have (and prob most pedis have) a prescription rx called Vusion. Great barier function and a prescription strength anti fungal. Help your little one reduce the yeast in the GI tract by lots of organic yogurt, or baby acidophillus ( I like Natreens brand at whole foods)

My 9 week old daughter had a yeast infection after antibiotics. If you have tried diaper creams and it did not clear up it is a yeast infection. I bought over the counter monistat and rubbed it on the rash and it cleared up in 2 days. Good luck!

Most of the time they follow antibiotic therapy. But there can be no real known cause- yeast thrives in a warm moist environment - hello diaper area!

Lotrimin AF (from the athletes foot section) twice a day, Dr Smith's the rest of the time, soaks in a baking soda bath and blow drying her bottom all work to eradicate the rash. I suggest using the Lotrimin for a few days after the rash goes away as yeast can live just under the skin and flares up quickly.

My son has had both Diaper rash and a yeast infection. A yeast infection is red like a diaper rash but small, raised bumps will also appear. Lomotrin cleared it up right away. We tried it after talking to our pediatrician. It works wonders.
