I just started taking Yaz birth control...been on it for a month, and I've been bleeding for over 2 weeks while on the pill. Has anyone else had this happen and does it get better after the first month? My doctor assures me that my body will adjust, but I'm tired of bleeding and I don't want this to happen again next month. (I had a baby 2 months ago.)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I am 5'8 and only weigh 125 pounds, so I doubt my weight is an issue, but I don't know.

YAZ was a miracle drug for me-it's great. It helped relieve me of hormone induced migraines. I did have a longer period the first month, maybe two but after that it has been fantastic, now I only have a 2 day period and it's extremely light. Don't give up on it yet-it really is great.

I had the opposite problem as the other lady. Yasmin was really bad to me, but Yaz is like a miracle. I have endometriosis and being on Yaz is the first time I can live without pain. I don't bleed anymore at all, have no cramps, and no daily pain like before. Surgery didn't even work as well for me. It did take some months for my body to finally get used to it- I'd say about 6 months until I got where I am now (in very happy land). I never had horrible problems on it in the beginning, but still had pain and some bleeding, but not much. So, it really, really depends on your body and your hormonal needs. I'd say if you're bleeding that much, it may not be a good match for you. I've probably tried 4 or 5 different oral bc's 'til I found a good match. I usually gave them a couple of months unless I was having big problems.

Oh, and I definitely weigh over 140 lbs- that's not an issue in my case.

Ditto like the mom who had bad issues with Yaz. I had a normal cycle, and then very short, then overly long, and then none at all. It also seemed to make me anxious and have worse PMS. So...I'm back on Yasmine and have no issues.

I was on yasmin for about a year with nothing "weird" happening. After my son was born, I mentioned to my doctor that I felt different and more moody during PMS and stuff. I was interested in Yaz because of the commercials saying it takes away the symptoms. There wasn't really anything wrong with me, but I had never had PMS at all before my son was born, and suddenly felt crabby and tired right before my cycle. He gave me a prescription for Yaz and I immediately went wack---I skipped a period for 2 months, and then bled for a good 2 weeks(when my period has ALWAYS been about 4 days). I was aggrivated by that, but what was really a problem for me was that I not only had "crabbiness" but was actually suicidal and progressively worse every week on Yaz. I would cry, I had anxiety, suicidal thoughts that were very not normal for me. My husband insisted the change happened immediately after I switched meds, I told my doctor, and went back to Yasmin, and haven't had that problem ever since. I'm not saying that it is a bad pill, but people have different body chemistries and it was absolutely not the best for me. Yasmin works fine for me.

It's a low dose pill - yes, especially if you're over 140 lbs or so - it happens. I'd recommend you switch to a full dose pill - Yasmin is the same med, stronger hormones.
