Yard Sales in Boise Area

We moved to Boise from the Phoenix area, where yard sales are insane. They're awesome! They have them year-round and they are everywhere on the weekends, Thursday through Saturday. Right after we graduated from college (3 years ago), I furnished our house mostly with yard sale finds. We didn't want to pay to move our $15 couch or $2 recliner, so we had our own yard sale before we moved.
We've been renting a little place in Boise while we checked out the area. Now we're moving to a much bigger place in Meridian, and we're going to need some furniture to replace the stuff we left behind.
What are yard sales like in Meridian? Do people sell lots of furniture, or mostly little stuff? What days are the best days for yard saling? Are there any really good neighborhoods?

What can I do next?

I think yard sales are just a good in Meridian. Good advice to check the paper for neighborhood sales- that will be most efficient. The nicer subdivisions tend to have nicer sales too. I think Craigslist might list them as well- just a thought. Maybe I'll see you out there sometime :)

Hi S.!
I've lived in Meridian for 5 1/2 years now and Boise the rest of my 36 years. I love to garage sale too!
You can get anything from junky, little thing-garage sales, to mostly furniture-garage sales. It just depends. I just drive around and follow all the signs. I go down Ustick, between 10 mile and Locust Grove and Fairview/Cherry Lane, and a bit on McMillan. The newer subdivisions seem to have nicer things (Paramount, Lochsa Falls, Bridgetower...).
Friday's are really good days (for deals) to go around here, but there are still not as many garage sales on Friday's as there are on Saturday's. Saturday's are best from 7:45-9:45 or 10am, in my opinion.
Happy garage saling!

The big thing in Meridian is neighborhood garage sales. Watch the Idaho Statesman (in print or online) for them to advertise and most also have a sign that they put up at least a week in advance.

The best times to hit the sales is now through mid-June when a lot of families go on vacation or it gets too hot for some people. You'll find a little of everything out there.

Also, boise.craiglist.org is another great place to find things cheap! Think of it as an online-garage sale. I know that we've listed a lot of stuff on there and have received fantastic responses. We've also found a lot of good, affordable stuff. It's a good way to shop if the weather is bad or if you're looking for something specific. Downside is that you don't get to browse through other stuff!

My subdivision in Meridian has a subdivison garage sale every year. Almost all the subdivisions in this area of Ustick & Locust Grove have the sale the same weekend so you can really find a lot and not travel far. Ours is May 17th, only on Saturday. Happy hunting!
