How worried should I be??? We had some friends of ours over last night for dinner and their son is one day older than ours, well their son had PINK EYE!!!! When I saw him I freaked out! How could they bring their baby who has pink eye to our house expecting our kids to play. Now are babies are only 5 months so playing really means laying on the floor next to each other...but still pink eye is very contagious!!! So today I have pretty much turned our house into a surgical clean room! Is there anything else I should be doing to make sure my baby doesn't get it? Am I worrying to much about it?

I should also say that I did my best to keep my son as far away as possible without offending our friends...but he was still all over my sons toys and seats...I soaked all the toys in bleach water and washed all the materials, is that good enough?

What can I do next?

Honestly, while it is contagious, and a bit of a pain to deal with, its not the worst thing in the world by a long shot! I have 5 kids, so pink eye is a common thing around here, in fact I have a 2 year old dealing with it right now..got it at the urgent care of all places:) You just put some drops in the eye, and with in 24 hours you are not contagious any more. Maybe they did not know he had pink eye..sometimes its easy to assume its allergies or something, esp. if you have never had it before. Now, I kept my daughter home from family activities last night, because I know better, but again..all of the steritlization may end up being more work than needed. I did not do anything, and none of my other kids show symptoms. If they do, however, they will get some drops too and we will go on our merry way. Hopefully you can enjoy the holidays free of pink eye

I would agree that pink-eye is common and not a worry. You can call the Dr. if it does happen for drops, though I don't know if they give them that young.

I was told that breast milk is a natural way to help pink eye b/c of the antibodies, so dropping some expressed milk into baby's eye is supposed to be good for that. We always did that if the babies came down with it, or suspected cases of it.

Wow, so rude to bring a contagious kid over. I think you have done all you can to prevent the spread. If you haven't seen any signs in 48 hours, you are probably in the clear. You may want to mention to your friend the next time you get together something like..."You guys are all healthy right? Just making sure because it is so difficult when (your baby) gets sick. I am really trying to keep him healthy."

ok make sure you wash everything he touched and wash your hands. Try to keep your baby from touching his eyes. Pink eye is really contagious and that was a rotten thing for your friend to bring the baby. Luckily it's not too serious even if he gets it. Just keep an eye out for symptoms like discharge and redness and call your pediatrician if it happens. Good luck

Pink eye can be contagious; however, not all forms are. Do you have any idea how long had the other baby been on antibiotics? Assuming he had bacterial conjunctivitis and was on antibiotics for at least 24 hours, he wouldn't have been contagious any more and you could rest easy. Granted, your friend should have told you all this. That would have been the responsible thing to do. Just continue to do good handwashing and you should be good.
