7 Month with Mattery eyes...could It Be Teething?

When my daughters went thru this this winter, my doctor told me it was because their sinses were so stuffed up that there was leaking out their eyes as well. I wouldnt worry about it, unless it gets real bad, like for example, when I took my daughter in, her's were like tears running down her face--it was kind of scary. Good Luck!

If it was me I would go to the doctor. I don't think it has to do with teething. It could just be a tear duct problem...my youngest had problems with her tear ducts when she was little. I took her to the doctor and she got drops that cleared up the problem. It didn't clear up over night but probably within two weeks it was cleared up.

I agree with the other mom's it could be pink eye and she should see a dr. My son got this when he was younger (I think he was about 5 months) and the dr. gave us a med that you put in the eyes - but was not an eye drop - because he was so young. But the Dr. also showed me how to keep the tear ducts from clogging, so it helps to see the dr.

The greenish eye discharge sounds like it could be a cold or a sinus infection. I would take her in just to be sure. Dogs can pass some things so be sure to mention it to your physician.

It very well could be pink eye...particularly since you mentioned that it's green, which generally indicates infection. It actually sounds like it's a bacterial pink eye rather than viral.

My middle daughter had a lot of problems with matter coming out of her eyes. What we ended up learning over time was the difference between pink eye and conjunctivitis and sinus drainage (typically white to off-white, no reddening of the eye) which indicated zero infection and was non-contagious. That was caused by allergies, and was recurrent. What was bad about that was that it could rapidly turn into pink eye because discharge is a prime breeding ground for bacteria and virii.

Once we found out that she was allergic to cats, we sadly found another very good home for our cat (my daughter was 3 at the time) and her eye problems completely cleared up in about a week. She then only had goopy eyes when she had a lot of exposure to cats.

But it took a while to get to the point of knowing which was which - and we had to start by going to the doctor with each occurrence and learning which was which. Too many eye infections can cause problems later.

I agree with the others that it sounds like pink eye. I've had it and it can be very uncomfortable, which is probably why she is rubbing her eyes. It can be viral or bacterial, but hers sounds bacterial because of the green crusty matter. Since she's so young the doctor might want to see her, but I would call first because sometimes they will prescribe drops over the phone. It is highly contagious so wash your hands carefully after you clean up her eyes and she shouldn't be going out anywhere until she's been on the drops for 24 hours. (P.S. It doesn't have anything to do with the dog. It's pretty common among young children and she probably picked it up from another child somewhere.) Hope she feels better soon! The drops work pretty quickly.

It sounds like she has some kind of infection (the greeen stuff is usually symptomatic of an infection). Also, my son had a blocked tear duct when he was under a year and had those same symptoms. We had to massage it (your doctor will show you how) throughout the day. Most of the time they open up with massage, but his didn't so we finally had surgery (it was really a very simple procedure and only about 10% of babies with blocked tear ducts need surgery so don't worry). Anyway, definitley take her to the doctor since it sounds like she needs drops or meds and ask about the blocked tear duct.

You haven't indicated anything like this, but both of my boys seem to "carry" colds and such in their eyes. Mattery eyes was always the first to come and last to go, and thus sometimes the only symptom that they'd caught a small bug. It could be something as simple as that.

She most likely has PINK EYE which is a very big deal. Pink Eye can be picked up almost anywhere as it is viral. If left untreated, the infection will travel through her lymph system and cause all kinds of domino illnesses starting with sore throat and then moving down the body. If she starts to spike a fever now, you will definitely want to catch it quickly.

It sounds as if your daughter has pink eye. I'd take her in because it could be infected more. If it is that you will just have to put drops in her eyes a few times a day.

My first thought was Pink eye, like the other mom's. What you describe reminded me of the 1 time I had pink eye. Take her to the doctor, you'll want to take care of it right away.

I would definately take her to the doctor. I have 3 girls and my daughters have all had mattery eyes like this. Turns out they have all had tear ducts that are not draining. They all had to get a medication for it. I am not a doctor so it's hard to know if that's what your daughter has or if she caught something from the dog. I do know however, that it is possible to spread things between dogs and kids. Our doctor had always told us to call the clinic if we have questions about if we should come in or not.

Could she have Pink Eye? I would take her to your doctor just to make sure. In the mean time, in case it is pink eye, make sure you and your hubby wash your hands alot.

Are you breastfeeding? If so, squirt breastmilk in her eyes every time you nurse! It works every time!

The same thing happened to my 9 month old - it ended up being Pink Eye. It's been going around daycare and since babies touch everything it's very easy to get. I called in to out dcotor's office and spoke with a nurse who asked a few questions and was able to disagnose it over the phone - called in the Rx for me and we never had to go in. Hope this helps!

I don't think it is teething. The green discharge concerns me - that sounds like a bacterial infection. Although pink eye would be the most likely thing, I am not so sure about that because of the green discharge. A few of mine had it at one time or another, but the discharge was yellow. I would get her in as soon as you can to check.

I would take her in. My daughter has gotten the same thing and it ended up being pink eye. We had to give her drops for it. My son had also gotten a similar thing and we found out it was allergies. He is allergic to cats which we don't have. We lived in rental house while our new house was being built and the previous owners had a cat. He is no allergic to cats .

It sounds as if your daughter has gotten "pink eye". Very itchy, watery eyes with discharge. Three of my children have had it before and only sometimes were their eyes pink with it due to the irritation. Take your daughter to the doctor for a correct diagnosis and to get the antibiotic eye drops. It is very contagious and can be passed very easily to each family member. With some eye drops you are no longer contagious after the first 24 hours and with one, you are no longer contagious after the first dose. Hope your daughter feels better soon.

I to am thinking pink eye. However the eye drops the dr gives you do work just fine. My son had it a couple months agao and the eye drops made them better by the next day already. I would defintly bring her to the dr. It could just be a cold in her eyes also, or possibly clogged tear ducts. My son is almost 9 months and has had clogged tear ducts since he was born. We have to wipe his eyes out every morning almost because they get so much gunk in them overnite. Hope she gets better soon.

I would go see your doctor. It could be allergies, closed tear ducts, a cold, or conjunctivitis (pink eye). If they are itchy, look to see if they are blood-shot at all. This could be pink eye. It's best to get them looked at, just to be on the safe side. There is no reason for her to be uncomfortable if it can be helped or prevented. I've never heard of these things happening when teething...but your doctor could confirm weather or not that is a symptom.

My son had something similar. Every time we would go outside he had the greenish goop coming from his eyes. I took him to the dr and she told me that he had seasonal allergies. We have since moved out of that area and for the past couple of springs there has been nothing. I don't remember what we did since it has been awhile.

If her eyes are red it could be pink eye. We had that too before and were given eye drops for that. It never hurts to see the dr since it has been going on for a few days.

I would definately get her checked for pink eye (conjunctivitus). Our daughter just had it last month. She would wake up and not even be able to open her eyes until we had washed them with a washcloth. They were also itchy. The doctor did give her eye drops (which were not fun to give her) but her eyes did clear up in just a couple of days. Pink eye can be either bacterial or viral. Some doctors won't give a prescription. But, daycares and schools will not let childern return until they have been on an antibiotic for 24 hours. Pink eye isn't too serious but it is VERY contagious. When you clean her eyes be sure to wipe from the inside of the eye to the outside so that it can't be passed to the other eye. Wash her hands after she has rubbed her eyes and wash your hands after cleaning her eyes or putting in eye drops.

K., it may be "pink eye", even if her eyes are not pink. It would be best to take her to the doctor just to be sure it's not something more serious. It may be allergies too...

We have 3 children and with the second, I thought he had allergies too. All of the physicians I have talked to have said allergies shouldn't really develop before around the age of 2. I would be more concerned about some type of virus/bug. If your dog has goopy eyes too, I can't imagine it, but I guess something can pass from dog to child. I would get it checked out if you are worried. I just don't think its allergies.

Mattery eyes are usually not associated with teething...you need to take her to the doctor. She probably has an eye infection, especially since it is green. I don't know if she could have gotten it from the dog or not...most things I've asked our vet about aren't transferable from dogs to humans...but this might be an exception.

I don't think the teething, and the matter in your daughters eyes are related. It sounds like she has pink-eye. It is highly contagious, so I would take her to the doctor. They will give her some eye-drops, and her eyes should clear up quickly.
