Workout Causing Nausea/spotting

Hi all,

Last week I started working out with a personal trainer at a local gym on Tues and Thurs for an hour. The first day we worked out, I was nauseated at the end and the feeling lasted for about an hour but I didn't think anything of it. I was a little sore the next day, but not as bad as I thought I'd be. I have had this same intense nausea feeling every time we've worked out together since and last nights session was so bad that I had to quit early. It's not that my body was exhausted and I didn't feel I could do one more lunge or shoulder press, it was the intense nausea that made me have to quit. I was still nauseated last night, 3 hours later! Then, I also noticed I started spotting last night. I'm not foreign to workouts, I was doing boot camp style workouts a year ago that were wicked tough and I NEVER had this type of nausea nor the spotting, ever!

Is this normal or should I tell this personal trainer to bring my workouts down a couple of levels even though I'm physically not exhausted, it's just the intense nausea? I've never had this happen before so I'm confused on what is happening.

TIA!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

No, definitely NOT pregnant, that's a fact I know for sure. Yesterday, the last time I had ate anything before the workout was 4 hours before and I wasn't hungry or starving when I showed up to workout, I was fine. I assume I was well hydrated, I drank reguarly throughout the day and sipped on water through my workout. However, I bring ice water with me, I wonder if the ice water is the cause of the nausea as was mentioned?? Still, the spotting thing is weird:/

Are you eating properly before you go. Working out on a full stomach is bad but working out on an empty stomach will make you nauseous.

Or you're pregnant. :p

that's weird. are you sufficiently hydrated? how long before the workout did you eat, and what?
yes, let your trainer know what's going on for sure.

Are you pregnant?

In either case, I would tone it down a bit. If it continues, I would definitely see a doctor.

There could be lots of factors - are you drinking too much water? too little? cold water? Cold water makes me feel nauseated and sometimes crampy!!

Good luck!!!

Do you have allergies? Post nasal drip can cause nausea and a gunky feeling in the throat that makes you nauseous especially when you work out. I don't think that would explain the 3 hours later still feeling nausea though. There may be some other underlying health issue. Have your blood pressure checked out. The spotting could be unrelated due to hormonal changes, or maybe you have a uterine condition like a tumor that could be giving you symptoms of pregnancy even though you are not. Track you BP during your workouts (replicate at home) and use a portable machine, and get your OB to check you. Best wishes and God bless!

How's your back? Are you sore or out of alignment?

We have nerves in our spine that wrap into our stomachs. When something in the spine is out of whack - which could be aggravated during your workout - it can cause nausea.

Just a thought.

You might also look into the possibility of being pregnant.

My first thought was possibly pregnant. Its also possible that you have a UTI or kidney infection and the spotting you saw was related to that. I would check with the doctor, because what you are describing isn't normal in someone that is used to working out.
