K.,
Start with where you work.... I work from home, I used to work at the office, but I made a pitch to bring my job to a home-office. Not all jobs can be done from home.
A friend of mine just gave the same pitch. She works for a different company. They went for it and she works 3 days home and 2 days in the office.
You have to have a well thought out plan, in writing, that your boss can read at a glance.
The bad part about asking is 1. they can say "no" and 2. they'll know you want to work from home and that you may quit. So don't present a plan till you're ready. They could even fire you. This is an at-will state, and they can terminate you for no reason. So you have to be ready to accept the consequences.
Don't forget your plan should show the PROS for you company.
Other than that, the sales companies are not bad. I sell Beauticontrol to my friends (I don't venture out and I only sell it because I use it too and get the discount, so why not sell it those who want it?) It's not hard to make a little money. But if you want to make a lot of money, then you'd have to do sales big-time and get out of the house. I would think it would be the same with any sales job.
Good luck!
