I found it to be relatively easy to work from home with a newborn, it was when my daughter got older that it became difficult. My daughter is 15 months old and ever since she has been able to crawl she has been fascinated with my computer. I can't get on the computer if she is awake because she will come over to it and cry and cry until I lift her up and allow her to play on the key board, which I don't allow anymore ever since she tore one of the keys off. It makes working very difficult for me.

I have found it easy to work from home, doing email's, and my online things.. I do alot of that... I do phone calls and just make sure that the baby is asleep. The first week was the hardest just because I was tired and baby made number 4 for me, but after that first week it has ben easy.
I think it gets harder the older the baby kids, because they need more from you.

i have been working from home for 3 years...with 4 kids.... babies are easy until they are about 6 months old. if your job requires a lot of daytime phone availability particulariily for customers to contact you then it is difficult. If you have older children or more than one child...it is also difficult. I am able to do a lot of my work at night after the kids are in bed and during the day in hour spurts.... I have one office day now where the kids go to a sitter and I reserve that day for a lot of phone calls or working in the field.

Hi H.,
I also work from home using my computer and phone. It has not been too much of an issue for me but kids are older now. I think you have gotten some good responses. It seems like it would be easier when you baby is younger and not moving around yet.

If you do not have to respond quickly then that makes it even better. I do a lot of my work at night also because I can do it through email.

All the best of luck to you, I really believe it's great to be home with your kids as long as you can, they grow up quickly, it's amazing how fast it happens.

My son is 17 and will be graduating from HS this year. I can't believe it's already happening.

I'm confident you will figure out a way to make it work for you if that's what you want to do.

Regards,
E.

I went back to work at my part-time job. I was also selling real estate - so I was kinda working at home the first 3 months after my son was born. I really contemplated on going back to work. It was a really hard decision. But I went back - especially since I have exceptional health benefits - that was the motivator. I am personally glad that I went back to work - for me it was a break from the chaos of the family. Getting out of the house for 4 to 5 hours a day is really nice. But I really do love my job and that makes a huge difference too. You have to do what is right for you and your family. For me it was going back to the grind and working. It was really hard at first. I was afraid that I would miss his growth, but I have our mornings together and that is I love. I was also afraid that I would leave the amazing bond that I had created with my son, but it never goes away. You will make the right decision - Us women we are strong.

It is doable, and will also be challenging. It is so great that you have this opportunity! I too work from home, most days it works well, some days are hard, they all are different.

You need to be realistic, but have goals and hold yourself accountable. Nursing will make everyting easier for sure.

If your husband will be around this will be even easier ( I did it with very little help from mine) But do not expect your baby to always be happy with him even if he is home, baby may want you only and that is ok. I can type and fax and send email and make phone calls.

I also managed to do client consults and go to trainings and prospect with a new born. The real challenge is with the older kids and with my little girl now that she is 2.

If you just need to talk to some one or need ideas as you get started, please email me. My assistant and I work every day pretty much with our kids on our laps and in the house with us as we work. We have made it work and so can you!

In fact we are looking for another mother in your situation who would like to work from home too, as we will be needing another staff member soon. Please email us for support, but also if you have a friend who may not yet have found a way to work from home, but wants to be with baby.

My experience didn't go that well. I'm a re-career'd medical transcriptionist and biller/coder.

My daughter was born ~4 weeks early and in the winter weighing less than 6#. She never let me put her down w/o crying. Always had to be held, needed lots of tactile stimulation.

Now, I work from home w/my laptop and my phone (calling only people who request information to be clear there) and my children are hanging off me, wrestling, fighting, etc. and it's not an issue.

I think it just depends on the needs of the newborn. Some like to be left alone and others needs lots of attention. I thought it would be super easy to work from home doing either transcription or coding. That's why I went into those fields. Boy was I wrong.

BEST of luck! It sounds like you have a greawt opportunity and support system in place. May you have a very smooth, swift, and easy labor & delivery.
