I currently work full-time 55 miles away from home. I leave the house at 6:40am & don't get home until 6 at night & it's really taking a toll on all of us. Although I earn a decent living, I'm spending a ton on gas & tolls each week not to mention time. I've looked into bunches of different ideas about working from home, but I just don't really trust anything I find on the internet. Is it really possible to earn a good living working from home? Has anyone actually done this? It would really be a dream come true if I could find something, anything, and would appreciate any advice anyone has got to give! Thanks!!!

M. J.

So What Happened?

I just wanted to thank all of you for your idead & responses. I'm still working hard at finding something closer to home, went on an interview last week, but the money just wasn't there so that didn't work out. I saw that a few of you asked what I do, well, I don't have a degree, but I do have a couple of years of college & about 7 years of experience in the accounting/bookkeeping/collections world. I've worked for different industries including a law firm, a CPA firm, & a private golf club which involves restaraunts, banquet halls, mass member billing, etc. Since moving to Delaware I've worked exclusively for construction companies. I'm currently doing accounts receivable, underwriting new customers & (mostly) collections for a construction supply & equipment store in New Castle. I definately seem to have a knack for this type of work, I just can't seem to find anything making even close to the money I'm making here any closer to home (everything I've come across has been in the $12/hr range). I'm not giving up, just getting a little bummed out about it.

Melissa,
Try WAHM.com. Occasionally there are some things on there. What type of work do you do? For awhile, I worked from home doing the books for a law office. I went to the office a couple times a week to check mail and stuff, but mostly just stayed home to work. I've since quit that job and am just enjoying my kids.

BTW, I'm up in Dover. I have a 6 yr old and a 6 1/2 yr old.

Melissa,

I've looked into working from home a bit, too, and tried various things. It's difficult to find something that is easy to get into, possible to do from home, and makes a decent salary. What about finding employment in Milford, Dover, or Lewes? I'm in Milford, too. I grew up outside of Philadelphia and have only been in Milford for the past two years. Feel free to email me any time. ____@____.com

Hi Melissa!
I will be working from home when I return to work in Jan. after my maternity leave. However, I work for Bank of America and have been with them for a while so it's an option that is offered there with some positions. Many companies are allowing this option these days. Not sure what you do or if it would be an option for you at all. It's a huge blessing. I also have an alomost five year old. I understand your concerns completely. I did the commuting thing and it's very hard! My bubby drives up north, and is in law enforcement also. We are not far from you..we live in Camden.

You may want to check within your company to see about telecommutin or going to a part-time schedule. You may not be able to make as much money working from home but it may even out once you factor in gas, childcare, tolls, work clothes, meals out, etc. check mymommybiz.com.

Melissa,

I was working an hour away and spending 10 to 12 a day gone away from my family. I decided it was not worth the money and decided to say at home with my four children while my husband worked full time. But it is up to you. I find more joy with my children then i did working.

Hi Melissa,

My name is J. and I live in Delaware and understand how you feel. I to at one point worked up north and drove 50 minutes to work every day and even on saturdays some weeks. I got sick of the drive and leaving home early and not getting home until late. Not mention not to get to spend time with my family. So I looked into may different home businesses and found one that I thoguht I would e-mail someone about and I am so glad that I did because it has changed my life and I really mean that from the buttom of my heart. I was not going to pay hundreds and thousands of dollars to start a company that I did not know how it was going to do. And with this company I got involved with you didn't have to at all. Not to mention it made a differnece in our health and saftey of my family that I treasure more than my own life. But I could go on but instead I will leave you with this and hope to hear from you. If not I wish you the best of luck in whatever you do. Also, I am close to Milford and my dad was born and raised there. It is a nice place to live. www.urfuturematters.com
