In short, "something's gotta give." You cannot be out of the home and expect the home to run smoothly on it's own. I work minimally (I'm out one day a week and a half day at that) and do many of my work tasks at home. And I cook EVERYTHING we eat (ketchup, mustard, bread, beverages, all three meals). And I homeschool. So what gives? Housework, since that's what I least like! I do have the kids help me keep house and as they get older that's helped immensely, though it takes teaching them early on and keeping at it to see fruits of those labors. You need to really sit down and consider your priorities. That is not a judgment but a true suggestion. What is important to you and how can you keep those things going well? There is no right or wrong answer there.
You should also look at what it costs you to work:
clothing
gas and car maintenance
childcare
food bought out and convenience products
stress
You might be surprised to see how much you actually take home after all those costs and how much goes to taxes after that! Read Miserly Moms by Joni McCoy to help you figure that out.
I applaud working moms who can keep it all balanced. I don't know how they do it!
