I'm doing a nautical theme for my son's 10th birthday...we'll be boating at the lake. Has anyone got any ideas for the wording for the invitation? Thanks!
Anytime I need help with wording on an invitation, I find a website that sales printed invitations. I look through them until I find one that matches my theme and use their wording. You can find almost any theme.

It sure would be cute if you wrote all the party info on a little piece of paper and burn the edges, roll it up and place them in little bottles with some sand in order to make the invites little messages in a bottle! The info could be written in "boat language"...LOL like "Ahoy Mates!" and "Captain ______" for your son's name and "Chart yer course for 12 noon - 2pm" and "Wave yer flag if ye be attendin' " or "Yo ho ho - let us know" for your RSVP. How cute!!! And you could include LifeSavers candy for a treat, etc!

You can say the party starts at 8 bells ( 2 pm) - if you look up ship's bell on wikipedia they'll give you what time matches what number of bells throughout the day - in case any of your guests are "Old Salts" or sticklers for accuracy.
To RSVP (especially if you use evite or similar):
Guests who will attend could be "ship's crew/crewmates"
People who can't make it could be "mutineers"
Ahoy mateys! All hands needed on deck for ______'s birthday party! The boat sails at ______ p.m. at (location). Parents may pick up their children at ______p.m. when the boat docks at (location). (include any special instructions for clothes and shoes). Have fun! Sounds like a GREAT party!
p.s. For parents who are afraid of water or not knowledgeable about boating, you might add reassurance that life jackets will be provided for each child and that children will be given some basic instructions in boat safety!
