Wondering If Child Has Allergies

For the past couple of weeks my 2 year old daughter has been complaining that her eye hurts. I thought that she might have a scratch so I took her to the doctor but they couldnt find anything wrong so I was thinking maybe that it was allergies. Does anyone have children that have allergies and is itchiness in just one eye a symptom? Do they have medicine for allergies for 2 year olds?

What can I do next?

My daughter has terrible allergies and my 8 month old niece. The docter gave my sister in law and me Zyrtec to give our kids once a day and it helps.

My son has allergies and I've never heard of it just affecting one eye. His eyes get a little glassey and water a little bit when his allergies are acting up. He has been on zyrtec since he was 1 years old so yes there's medications, ask your pediatrician for medication. There are also other symptoms such as sneezing and stuffy nose that are dead giveaways for allergies. Maybe she had a small eye infection? They are not very serious but very contagious...hope this helps

I have a 9 year old with severe allergies. Sometimes his eyes will get red, itchy, and runny. At times it could be both but sometimes it is just one of them. Talk to your pediatrician about putting your daughter on over-the-counter Claritin first to see if that helps...if not see about a prescription medication or see a pediatric allergist. Good luck, allergies are tricky!

Hi Y.,
My 21 mo son has mutliple allergies and I'm also a RN. One of the early symptoms of his allergies was red itchy eyes (both). I took him to a pediatric allergist who diagnosed his allergies (based upon blood tests). Benadryl, claritin and zyrtec are the most commonly used antihistamines for children. They all have pediatric dosing. I was recommend checking with your pediatrician before giving any of these medication your child. Good luck!
