Women's Multivitamin

I feel so sluggish by 3 pm and still have another 5 hours with my daughter being awake before I can relax. I don't eat meals and snack throughout the day, but I think this is effecting my energy level and I'm probably not getting all the essential vitamins I need. I don't remember feeling this way when I was pregnant and taking prenatals, but I do remember feeling this way before I was pregnant. So I'm thinking that maybe a multivitamin will help with energy levels and give me what I'm missing by snacking and not actually having meals. Does anyone know a good multivitamin?

GNC Women's Multivitamins. I've used them for years and think they are wonderful. More expensive then what you would find at Wal-mart but worth it. They are on sale often and you can find coupons to GNC usually in those blue envelopes that you get in the mail or in the saver magazines that you get in the mail, you can also sign up on their website for coupons. My husbands takes the Men's version and swears by them as well.

I take the One-A-Day Women's multivitamin. Since it's formulated for women, it has extra vitamin D, iron, and folic acid. I notice that my hair and fingernails have been growing in more quickly and more healthy looking since I started taking them. I'm not much of a meal eater either but I like to snack on high protein foods like raw almonds, dried apricots, or yogurt. Salads with grilled chicken are good for a quick, small meal too. Part of keeping your energy up is related to keeping a steady blood sugar level so make sure you're not starving yourself or you'll get a headache and feel bogged down. I hope this helps. :)

I use the Walgreens version of womens once a day multivitamins.
if you are tired, I suggest getting outside at 230 and going for a nice long walk with your daughter. Exercise is usually the best thing for you. Plus it gives your DD some good outside time.

Ok, this is going to sound ridiculous, but I take 2 of my son's Flintstone type vitamins a day plus a B-Complex. I have been doing it for a little over a week now and I have to tell you that my energy levels are through the roof! I was SO excited!!! I need to add a calcium supplement as well, but other than that, I honestly feel so much better every day! 2 Flintstone vitamins plus the B-complex also give me more folic acid than any prenatal, so I figure that if I can eventually get pregnant again, I am covered there as well! I hope it helps you as much as it helps me!

P.S. Guaranteed the women below who are swearing that some vitamins don't work are just trying to sell them to you...just my thoughts...

i agree with the previous poster excercise is your best bet...nothing makes me more tired than sitting at home....for some reason my body takes comfort for tired. with that being said i take centrum with calcium and vitamin c multivitamin and i use the chewable ones because i hate having the feeling of a pill stuck in my throat. i too took the prenatals for a very long time and felt better while on them, but i dreaded taking them and always had the feeling of burping them up or them being lodged somewhere in my throat. but i really really hate pills, and most vitamins come in chewable form for adults too.

I was feeling the EXACT same way. I've started taking vitamins and have noticed that my energy level has gone up. My husband has the "duty" of dropping our son off at daycare in the morning and I "get" to pick him up in the afternoons. It took 18 months, but I finally realized that I don't have to FLY to go get him the second I get off work. I have the priveledge of getting off work around 3:30 so I've learned that rather than going straight to the daycare to pick him up, I go home first, and take a few moments for myself. The house is empty, it's quiet and I can honestly just relax! This has helped boost my energy in the evenings as well. It's almost like my litte pit stop before the next round of evening laps (smile).

Anyway, I say all that to say that I take a (don't laugh) a gummy vitamin in the morning. It tastes like eating candy and it's something I actually look forward to taking rather than having to remind myself to pop a pill with a huge glass of water. It's just funner and I haven't missed a day since I purchased them.

But along with chaning my daily habits and allowing for "me time" I've seen a significant change in energy. Not sure if your schedule will allow for that but all of us moms HAVE to find time in our day for just us. We'll be better wives and mothers for it!

I worked with a Bariatric Dr. and what several people here mentioned is true - the chewable vitamins absorb and work. It is perfectly fine to take the children's or you can take Centrum chewables - Target carries them. However, I'm really concerned that you said that you don't eat meals or snacks through the day. You should get the proper nutrition through meals and supplement with vitamins, don't try to starve yourself. I hope that was a typo and you do actually eat.

check out http://www.YummyLiquidVitamins.com My hubby and I have been taking these and love them. You don't need to mix it, you just shake it and take it and it's liquid so it's absorbed much faster than pills. Check out the free 3 minute video. They are priced competitively and are so worth it! Good luck!!!

Hi V.,
The reason why most of the people who take vitamin supplements do not feel benefits from them is because the do not get absorbed. Typical tablets that are sold in stores are filled with fillers and covered by an additive called magnesium sterate which makes the pill virtually impossible to digest.(at best 30% absorbable) I worked in radiology for years and I can't tell you how many times vitamins showed up on x-ray's. The nurses call centrum bed pan pills. Last year I was introduced to a isotonic line of supplements and the results are nothing short of miraculous. Isotonic simply means "same pressure" and it is a drinkable form. When you introduce a substance that has the same isotonicity as your body fluids your body immediately digests it and you receive the benefits immediately which by the way is 90-95% of the nutrients. This Isotonic line of supplements was available from my Doctor when I was first introduced to them and now I implement these products into Dr's practices. You could say that I am hooked but it is a healthy addiction. My suggestion is to try a multivitamin from the isotonic line, you will actually feel the benefits. In addition I would have you on B-complex for your lack of energy. Do some research here: http://www.visionary-wellness.com. Hope this helps and hope your are feeling better soon.

There's a scientifically proven lull in energy levels around that time in most people each day.

I'm in complete agreement that your best bet is exercise. A multivitamin really isn't going to fix it to the extent you need as it's a physiological issue endemic to most people.

The fact that you're not eating and snacking may also be the issue. Carbs are your body's main source of energy. You may need to adjust how you eat through the day - most current experts recommend 6 small meals/large snacks vs. 3 meals/day. If you focus your lunch on your higher carb meal (pasta, etc), you may find it naturally boosts your energy.

Ask your pharmacist or physician before starting any vitamins so you know what you really need. For example, Calcium comes packaged in 1000mg tablets which are a complete waste of money because your body can only process 500mg at a time - you basically urinate 1/2 of the product away each time you take one.

Ok, I know you don't want to hear this but you need to eat your meals rather than snacking. Even if they are small meals.

But to answer your quesitons, I take Oligo vitamins, my husband takes their vitamin for men. They are great. They are also backed by a full money back guarantee. Let me know if you want more info.

Hi V.,

Dodge anything sold at Walmart, Sam's, GNC or a CVS type store. These are considered "drug-store" grade and are actually dangerous. They "absorb," NOT, by a process called sulfonate or gluconate. These type of vitamin/mineral actually causes free radical activity, which is what causes diseases. There are some better vitamins sold at pharmaceutical grade health stores (usually absorb through a process called chelate) but there are some that are much much better out there.

Just so you'll know. If you are getting ANY type of nutrient you will feel some extra energy but that doesn't necessarily mean they are good for you. I take the only one on the market that is actually guaranteed to absorb. I buy it online. The company also offer a 90 day, money back guarantee if you don't feel better. They are also the cheapest cost of the pharmaceutical grade vitamins. Bobbi McCaughey, who is the only woman in medical history to deliver seven HEALTHY babies was on these and still takes them.

Let me know and I can send you some specific information outlining why they are better than the others. I'd like to help.

Absolutely! This is what I do for a living. Adding vitamins into my diet changed my life, but not all vitamins are created equal. And I have seen the right vitamins change the lives of others too. No matter how good we eat it is unlikely we can get in all the vitamins we need. I also am a believer in protein. Many of us just don't get protein in with every meal. So that is another consideration.

Have you been checked for low iron? Contact me if you would like some info. I really think I can help.
