We helped my daughter until she was five. I've found that she still doesn't do such an awesome job on her own unless she uses the flushable wipes.
I know this may be a strange request but am just curious to hear everyone's thoughts. My 4 year old daughter has been potty trained since shortly after her 2nd birthday. She has been wiping on her own after going pee-pee but she still calls my husband and I to help her wipe after she goes poop. I know she can do it but I guess I have just been worried about her getting her bum clean and not getting the poop into her privates. What age did you all start letting your little ones wipe themselves after they pooped?

Hey, J.,
I think its really up to the child's personality. My boys still have trouble getting all the poop out of their bottoms and my girl has no problem. And they are 6, 7 and 9!
I think they want to go play so they just don't do a good job sometimes. But it shows up in the underwear!
Hope this helps!

Our rule is that we wipe for them until they are 4. At 4, they have to wipe themselves first, then we check and make sure they are clean and help them wipe again if needed. By the time they are 5 they are on their own.
My daughter just turned 6 and occasionally she'll still have to call me in to wipe. (Only if she goes poo)
I'm not exactly sure the age when they completely do it on their own.....I guess you'll know when she wipes back there and it's completely clean then she won't need you anymore. : )
You sound like you got your hands full and good luck with the new baby and your delivery!

Mine was about 4... actually his preschool teacher made him learn. I would suggest investing in some of those flushable wipes though... we get the walmart brand and they work just fine. I just keep the box on the back of the toilet, and it is much easier for him to get completely clean.
Hi, Haylee is 4, and started wiping her bottom by herself between 3 1/2 and 4. We also started with the wet wipes (although she is fine with toilet paper now) I explained to her like the other moms to always go front back becasue you could get sick if you got the yucky stuff in your privates, so stress that one. (Very bad habitt to pick up) Then (just as a rule of thumb) I told her to wipe 3 times. If there was no dirty paper then she was all clean. If it was still dirty, to wipe 3 more times. Now she has it down. Front to back, three times, clean paper means a clean hiney!! Hope that helps.
My daughter did it by herself from three or four but if it was "runny poop" as she would call it, then she would ask for my help until she was around six. It can be hard to get those little arms all the way back there :-)
My 7 year old is on her own now! My 6 year old just started getting herself completely clean. My other daughter just turned 4 and she cleans herself really good. My two year old still gets mad and poops on my floor. AAAAAAAAAhhhhhhh
But my point is all kids are different. I would let her do it herself and then have her call you to "check it" She'll get it soon!

We went through this with our daughter too when she was just about to turn 4. I recommend the disposable wet wipes that they have for kids. For us this makes getting clean a lot easier. We just talked about the proper way to do it and that if we wipe the wrong way that it can make us sick. That was all it took for us. I used a small reward for her to do it herself. In the beginning I would send her in to "try" by herself and then I would come in and help just to make sure we were getting the hang of it but soon she was doing on her own. We did offer a small reward for her to do it all by herself and she seemed to love that. I hope some of this is helpful. Good luck!
