So the winter season is coming up and I have three children - 2 boys and 1 girl ages 6-10. What are some great brands for coats and snowpants have you found that withstand some harsh treatment from children? I have tried many coats over the years and cant seem to find any that the zipper doesnt break or the coat doesnt tear at the seams before the season is up. I am located in Iowa so winter is long... Any good brands out there? Thanks for the help!

What can I do next?

We used Lands End until my daughter outgrew the kids line a few years ago. We never had zipper issues or cold kid issues, etc. She wore it from toddlerhood until about age 14.

I also wear Land end stuff. I have one lightweight jacket that is a fleece type material but windproof and warmer and not clingy like fleece gets. I wish they still made them as I would love an updated color (and mine has a few stains on the sleeve). I have had it almost 10 years!

We live in Wisconsin so winter here is very long!!! For daily use I usually buy my kids North Face jackets, they hold up well and are very warm. For skiing I always buy Spyder clothing, again they hold up great and are very warm. Spyder jackets and snowpants could be used on a daily basis also we just choose to have two seperate sets because we ski so much.

I've had good luck with Columbia. And we are in Minnesota. I also know a good tailor who will replace zippers for a reasonable price. I've gotten an extra season or two out of a coat that way.

I really like Columbia. They have 3 layer ones w/ the fleece in them. And some are waterproof. They are costly, but if you want good brands you gotta pay :) I actually found a great one just like that at Osh Kosh Outlet too.
