Will You Take the No Feeding the Trolls Pledge?

Here it is:

On my honor, I do solemnly swear that I will not knowingly feed trolls. If I read a post and think it is a troll, I will resist the urge to respond to it. I will simply ignore it, or report it, and go on with my day.

Come on, who will swear to it?

I just did :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Sara, yes, but an investment in the future :) A tiny bit of attention today and then, hopefully, freedom after they tire of being ignored.

Oh heck no! I love playing with the amusing ones. The lame ones like last night I want them to go away as soon as possible.

How about not feeding the lame trolls pledge?

I could easily take this pledge.
I think one of the trolls last night morphed and people took them seriously. sigh.

Personally, they're just a waste of space and responding to them is No Fun.

you know we had a question on here today.....which made me sit back & really think about the source.

I checked the background Q/As....& it was a 1st time respondant. I actually left the forum, but then decided I wasn't being fair to the poster. I did answer her question, as did a few others.

but for me...that's the problem with trolls....you don't want to feel like you're wasting your time. Sometimes, though, it's just beyond temptation! LOL.

Soooo, as with today's all-so-obvious troll, I did not feed it. & I try very hard not to....unless my sense of humor kicks in.

Sorry, can't take the vow! But thanks for the post!

LOL! You're cute!

I don't believe in these pledges (the political ones drive me up the wall), but I agree with not feeding the trolls. (When I KNOW they are trolls.) However, if the battery lady writes again, and I actually realize it's her beforehand, I will happily feed her!

Much worse than the trolls like this particular one from yesterday, are the type who spin a story, get you feeling sorry for them, and then say so much stuff that you realize you've been HAD. We had one during the last holiday weekend - Memorial Day weekend - who started out like that, then started ranting and raving. Her writing was atrocious and she claimed to be a law student. When many questioned her assertions and took offense to the stuff she was saying, she made up more stories and then peppered us all with posts that were there just to rile everyone up.

I'll take a poster from last night "trolling" over THIS kind of troll any day of the week!

I DO essentially agree with you though - Don't Feed The Trolls!

Smiles!
Dawn

Yes, I take the pledge! I do admit I posted once on the one last night but just because I was so freaking frustrated with him/her and the awful spelling - I put something my sister used to say when we were kids if someone made her mad "Don't go away mad, just GO AWAY!"

But I also reported his/her other posts...hope that counts for something :)

I did my best last night - simply posted "reported" so others would know that someone had. Well, today I get a response from Mamapedia stating that they were NOT going to take the reported questions down because they were asking legitimate questions. If Mamapedia refuses to help, I'm not sure what the rest of us can really do! Ugh.

No no no no nooooooooooooooooooooo. ;)

Honestly I enjoy messing with trolls. When they aren't boring. This one is boring.

Ahem. Or as my son says (the word boring isn't allowed in my house) "uninspiring".

The ones that are fenceish though? (Maybe yes, maybe no) I just treat as real until proven otherwise. Even of phoney, their outlandish Q's may well be something someone else wouldnt ask but find useful. And outlandish is often thought provoking. I like the conversations that initiate on real topics following phoney queries.

Sometimes the trolls are amusing... but that one last night was just plain annoying...

And I was wondering about the cat one, also..... was that for real, or was it a troll?

I try not to feed the trolls...but sometimes... it is just too hard to resist!

My favorite responses to obvious troll questions are "I thought we weren't going to answer trolls!" or "Don't feed the trolls!" LOL

Yes, I take the pledge.

I did'nt really know what a troll was until the other night. Now I get it. Of course that one was so obvious after I read a couple of them.

I use to think people were being crude and rude when they called others trolls before because I didn't know what they meant -- I hadn't seen anything that would indicate a troll even though there are some that are a bit strange or seemingly off the wall or just plain absent of thought. But I chalk it up to the fact that everyone is different and their experiences are too.

It seems strange to me though that a person would take time to write out these ridiculous things. I guess they get their kicks from it. Sad. But now I know why they're called trolls. Who named them trolls? Is this a word used on other sites too?
:)
