My daughter who is nearly 3 has begun to use the potty at home, but when we go to my mom's she refuses to go. What should I do? I bring her stool with so she can get up on the toliet like she does at home, but she still does not go. Any help would be great. Thanks!!!

I'm sorry but I'm an adult and I have a problem using other washrooms. Perhaps bribery would help. Seriously, or if she's nervous that someone is listening or requiring her to perform perhaps you could explain to her that she is very loved and that it is safe and okay. I know I know not much help, but I am still waiting for someone to explain that to me. In the meantime bring a change of clothes... and give her a hug, she'll come around.

Is she able to verbalize why? My first thought was maybe the flush is louder/scarier ... my daughter hates the loud flush at some restaurants and such. Now I let her out of the stall before hitting the flush in those cases. That's all I could think of ... hope this or someone else is able to help!

Hi mom think about it! Where would you like to be when you use it and what better place than home.

My son was the SAME way!! He would go at home but not at school or at Grandma's. When we started him at home there were many tears and it was just getting over the first few times and then it was over. So we did that at Grandma's. It took two times of tears. Just having him sit when we KNEW he had to go (potty dance, holding himself) and he finally went. Then it was like a switch and he would go ANYWHERE! School even public restrooms didn't bother him once he got over going outside his house. Good luck. It will happen. I know what you are going through!!!

My son had a problem with using strange bathrooms for years. It is a mental thing not physical problem. There is really nothing that can be done besides reassuring her and discussing her reasons for not wanting to use another bathroom. Maybe if she saw you using grandma bathroom she would feel better.
I hate to scare you but my son was in school before he would use a strange bathroom.

Good Luck

Well, I have no experience with this yet, but based on the comments about the "ambience", I think it is a very uncomfortable thing for a child that age to basically get naked and then do something "private" or "dirty" in an unfamiliar place. So, I am wondering if having a "potty buddy" of some sort would help? Like, a new stuffed animal that hangs out in the bathroom when she's going, including elsewhere? Of course, would probably be best if it was easily washable. But, I wonder if that would help.
