My DD will be two in December, in CT it is cold and snowy! Last year half of the plp did not show up due to snow...anyways. I have invited about 30 people (close friends and family, I know for close that sounds like a lot but we have a big family). The party is from about 10-12. There will be mostly adults w/ a few other toddler friends. It is indoors, of course. I am looking for brunch ideas that will be easy and cheap! I am not looking to make this a huge deal, just fun and easy for everyone. Thank you so much in advance. I welcome all and any ideas!

What can I do next?

I loved the rainbow party I did for my child at 3. All the kids wore rainbow colors. They made a rainbow craft ( oriental trading ) It was sticky and they just put tissue on the sticky part to make the colors. We got a blow up rainbow pool and did games with a ball and music like musical chairs and we sang a song in the pool. ( no water, inside. just the idea of them sitting in it. )
We pinned the rainbow cloud on the rainbow. I gave away a toy book about rainbows. What a wonderful thing in the snow huh ? LOL

I've thought about how brilliant a brunch party would be!
Quiche is a great crowd pleaser. I buy the 2 packs of rolled ready to use pie crusts, put a layer of cheese on the crust, then the toppings, then a 3 egg to 1 cup milk scrambled mix. You can be as simple or fancy with the toppings. They can be made in advance (even frozen) and reheated. You can also pre make and freeze muffins or quick breads. Or a strata is very similar to a quich, but made with a loaf of crusty bread. That can be done with grown up fillings or a berry and cream cheese one - I'm sure something like "allrecipes.com" is full of recipe ideas.
You can get a large cookie cutter of your child's "passion" and make pancakes in that shape. Have a variety of toppings for that too.

Good luck! It's a great idea!

Hot Apple cider!!! Sorry - that's all I got =)

Well, also fruit/cheese/olive/cracker tray. Of course, my DD loves all sorts of cheese - even the ones that I consider to be a stinky (Gruyère is her fave). We have a great store that has all sorts of interesting fruit, cheese, olives and crackers (or bread). Hmmm... just a suggestion, maybe instead of bringing gifts, everyone could bring a dish and therefore keep you from having to provide everything? My DD wasn't really into gifts at that age still - she just wanted balloons and cake =)

A great appetizer or brunch finger food is cheese puffs. Make ahead!
1 pack English muffins (I use whole wheat but not the honey-wheat ones)
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese or taco cheese, or half cheddar/half mozzarella.
1 cup mayonnaise (I use Smart Balance)
pepper or seasoned pepper, or chili powder, to taste - depends on how spicy the cheese is.

Split & toast the muffins. You'll have 12 disks. You can use the broiler or do them in batches in the toaster. Let them cool. Meanwhile, mix up the cheese & mayo & seasoning. Spread the mixture on the cooled muffin halves going all the way to the edges. If you want, add the seasoning pepper now for a little color. Cut each half into 4 wedges and put them on a baking/cookie sheet. You'll now have 48 pieces.

When ready to serve, put the whole baking sheet under the broiler for about 5 minutes - watch them - they will puff and bubble at get golden brown, just don't let them burn. Put them on a platter and let one of your family members pass them around.

Delicious and people will think you fussed! Try this once by yourself with one muffin. The amount of cheese and mayo can vary depending on how cheesy and loaded up you like your muffin. It's not a precise measurement so just wing it!

For my DD's 2nd birthday I made sloppy joes (aka BBQ's). To keep the cost down, I used 2 lbs ground turkey & 2 lbs ground beef. Whole wheat buns, baked chips, cut up veggies & fruit, cupcakes, and milk or water to drink. I cut the veggies & fruit, instead of buying prepared trays. No pop or koolaid or other sugary juices. My DD and I had fun making the cupcakes to get ready for the party. People were happy with the food, and I didn't have any leftovers. There were about an even mix of kids & adults, about 30-35 total people. The party was 4-7pm, I think. Hope this helps!
