Why Oh Why Do I Do This to Myself! NERVOUS!

So I have an appointment with the OB/GYN later this afternoon to get an IUD insertion (Paraguard-the copper one). I had twin girls vaginally, a colpo, and a LEEP procedure done and every single time I was absolutely fine. The worst part of labor for me personally was when it was time for the placenta-at that point I just didn't want to be touched anymore-lol! If I can sustain pushing two babies out then why in the world am I so nervous about this IUD insertion? Maybe because of all the negative's I have heard and read about. I know in the back of my mind everything will be just fine. I plan to take two ibuprofen before going but for you ladies that have gone through this-tell me on a scale or maybe a comparsion just how bad was it? It can be that bad compared to child birth for goodness sake for for some reason I can't help but be nervous for some odd reason. Maybe I am on edge too because the office moved and I'm not quite sure where it is so I'm afraid of getting lost??? I don't understand why I worry-it is what it is right???!!!! ;())

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies! I had it done and although it was quite uncomfortable-I can surely think of 10 million other things I would have rather been doing but overall it wasn't that extremely bad although I'm not going to sit here and say it was nothing. The doctor made me even more nervous though when I got there because he said that one of his associates (not ever him having this happened personally as of yet) a lady came in and had it done and was scheduled to have it surgically removed yesterday by his associate. I trust my doc fully and quite honestly I wonder which associate this was because I bet I know who it was....anyways I am sore today but just stocking up on the advils. I hope and pray this works out because if it doesn't I think we may need to consider something more permananet and I just recently miscarried in December so I would like to have that opportunity to have another if I so choose to do so but I don't think I am ready yet-I wanted to give myself at least another year..........

I have nothing nice to say about an IUD. I hated mine; I was so sick and not myself. Sounded like a great idea... but no, it was awful. I truly hope you don't have the same experience.

Good news is, it's much faster and painless to have it removed :)

The pain is not that bad, hardly any worse than a normal examine. My advice is to leave early and give yourself plenty of time to find the office and relax. The more you are tense and nervous, the more it will hurt because your muscles will be tight. Just relax and keep your mind on your beautiful children.

On a pain scale of 1 to 10 (10 being childbirth or kidney stone), IUD insertion was a 2. They insert it so fast, it's over before it has time to hurt. I spotted and bled for a couple of months, but not anything horrible. Hope this puts your mind at ease.

My opinion is it depends on what type of body type you have. I have the perfect birthing body and insertion of my Mireana was just fine. I didn't even know she was doing it till she said "Done!"
But I feel you, I was so nervous too! I didn't want any pain, super nervous about all the negatives I've heard. But then I realized that when people are hating something, that's when they come out of the wood work and shout off the roof tops that things are bad. And that's why we always hear about the negatives. I'm happy with mine and I'll shout it here :D

Mine was easy peasy, it was the removal that was horrible for me. Mine strings got coiled up and so it had to be surgically removed.

I had a "worst-case" insertion. My uterus is too small and it takes some work to get it in there--my doctor applied "gentle" pressure for five minutes hoping that it would eventually work. Even still it wasn't too bad. My first one was inserted by a midwife who had similar issues, but it was much, much easier. So, what I'm saying is that even a worst case insertion is a picnic compared to an unmedicated child birth!

I'm a huge wimp and having an iud put in was not that bad for me. Mild cramps for a day or two, and it's been fine ever since (about 3 years now). Take a deep breath and relax, it'll be okay.

Mine was a piece of cake. Here's the trick: before my midwife inserted it she told me to tense up, like I was doing a kegel exercise. Then let go, and stay loose, then she inserted it. I didn't feel a thing. You just have to stay relaxed! Good luck, I'm sure it will be fine.

I had one for a short time years ago, not the new kind, bled to death and pain was not good putting it in but lasted for a short time. I did cramp for awhile and finally had it out, also painful, and would NEVER have another one. Plus I'm not sure what it's doing but think it may be aborting which is why the bleeding. I would never recommend one.

The insertion is NOTHING compared to the side effects. I had mine removed a short time after I got it. It was horrible!

I hope you have better luck with yours.
